  1. 1. I dont know, but i am 100% sure that some or many asked for this feature! its easy, i want to play more and wait less... we all do or? if the game gives a lets say 3 - 5x speedfactor to all vessels in the open see (min distance from any harbour) that would be wonderfull it should be at a speed lvl which let the player stil steer and interact (intercept) as before just a bit faster, major goal everyone is faster at where the action starts any pvp camper will not miss there targets because they can chase them anyway at same speed just all of us are faster i dont see a CON here do you?

    • Yes more fun, and right implemented no downside at all
      4
    • No sailing needs time to be fun and feeling the wind

Currently our quickest ships are very fast in open world.  Like supercharged speed boats, not at all like majestic age of sail ships.  When speed mods are added to these bullet boats they skip across the waves as if jet powered.

During the tag, the action can be sharp and jerky --nothing like a chase. No sailing skill is needed.  It is repetitive quick hand eye coordination.  And positioning during the initiation of combat can be very important.

If we increase the speed 3 times - the tags will start to become more luck than skill.  Dependant on connection and hardware speed.  Too fast can become frustrating.

If we increase the speed 5 times - tags will resemble air combat with a very short weapon range.  Good postioning may be all luck.

Traders won't see the raiders coming.  Raiders will have to hit the attack button with split second timing.

Be careful what you wish for.  If you hate sailing  - teleporting is a more playable option than supersonic ship speeds.

I see

that can be solved in many ways, well all of them would need some more programing i bet.

Lets say you catch a trader, after the first 10 seconds the speed slows to normal and you get another 10-15 sec for positioning for the interceptor or escaping for the trader!

and for not seeing them coming, the crew should warn you with a visible text, sails NE or something there you go

I do believe in future patches we will get something like trade winds.  Paths you can hit that speed up your travel.  I'm going to assume these aren't along coast lines and for long runs really.   Well until they are in game we can only guess how they will work.

X3-5 Times OW-Speed +20min join timer sounds like a good thing. Sarcasm off.

It is age of Sail Naval Action and not Space Action. I know it is frustrating sometimes too Sail for hours too get to a Port that is on the other side of the map.

This is such a b.s. argument against increasing OW sailing speeds.  All you have to do is change the relative temporal scale of the OW wave action to be visually appealing. Then reduce the tag timer so that you get a tag when you click the tag. Lastly, scale the the position within the tagging circle to reflect the position inside beginning-of-battle instance placement to be "comfortable."

Wraith,

I like your posts.  You are frequently thoughtful and provocative.  Although I'm not sure I understand.

The tagging could be made workable at super speeds by; reducing the tag timer, and increasing the size the of the circle (proportional to speed).  I will defer to your experience.

And I agree that the wave action seems to be unchanged regardless of the ship speed.  The visuals of the waves is the same in battle, or in OW, independent of the ship speed.  There is no reason to change the wave speed even if we increase ship speed 20x.   And perhaps we could appear to be sailing very slowly when we are traveling at extremely high speeds.  The ships could look as if they are creeping along, gently rocking slowly through the waves as we rocket along at 150 knots.

But I'm not sure that visuals are the greatest concern. Currently I can zoom along in OW at about 1 km every 6-10 seconds.  If we increase the speed 5 times we will be traveling at a breathtaking 1 km in 2 secs.  Thats less than 2 mins for 100km  (Tiberon to Port Antonio).  Such speed will kill the OW part of the game.  The vastness of the sailing will be removed.

First thing people need to do is leave their "space age era" and slow down to an age of sail understanding of time. Which still has for gaming sake time-compressing elements, more than we are aware of, but still people get uneasy when things take their time...

It's a bit like the repetitous criticism about the size of the ocean. Vast open waterways and time, patience for navigation and seeking the enemy - all part of a sailing experience to ensure success out there.

Therefore I hate every attempt to make this game hectic like 'space action'.

Perhaps what you are really finding annoying and time consuming is the transport of goods/books/reps/ships around the map?  Perhaps a better solution than supercharging speed would be the ability to hire some AI (for a fee) to transport the goods for you.  Maybe pay a bit more to transport with AI escort.  Goods would be placed on AI transport and arrive some time later, if the AI makes it to the destination without being engaged/sunk/pirated by a player.  This would add content and targets, as well as removing boring, time consuming tasks away from valuable gameplay time.
