JVS Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 Enemy NPC 3rd Rate sailed outside the circle in Patrol fight. A while later (2min maybe) I followed him outside the circle. The NPC didn't die as he should (he never went back into the circle), so my clock ran out and I lost my ship. NAB-93873 PvE server. I request refund of my Aggamemnon. 1
van Veen Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Yes, the circle is for players so that they are forced to fight. NPC can use the circle to escape. However, usually the AI does not run away from a fight (except for trader ships) so you must have pushed him to the edge of the circle by your manouvers.
Guest Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Yeah its intended, maybe the rules arent spesified as good as they should, but its so people cant abuse the PvP zone for loot farm
JVS Posted September 17, 2019 Author Posted September 17, 2019 I've followed NPCs outside the circle before. It has been safe as long as he leaves circle first. My clock has stopped when he dies. Are you guys on PvP or PvE server?
Tenet Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 If you join the Russian Empire on the PvP server, I will build you a new Aggie as compensation. I was one of the people who reported this issue - an exploit that allowed a ship as small as the Surprise to kill a 1st Rate without firing a shot, by luring it outside the circle, then sailing back. Now NPC's are no longer bound by the circle - so if you want to capture a trader in the PZ, you have to demast or board fast. Combat ship NPC's are quite bad sailing upwind, so they may be pushed beyond the circle over time. If that happens, you might have to wait out the timer.

When was this change applied? Was it announced in patch notes? I've been reading patch notes to keep me up to date (even when I was on a break from the game) and this would be something I would've noticed - since it's a potential loss-of-ship change. There is a mention of "Fixed 3 potential exploits thanks to @qw569 research" in patch 33, but if that was all there was of information I still feel I have a case for a ship refund. I played according to the established gameplay mechanics, without being informed of the mechanics being changed. PS. I never used this as an exploit, I actually wanted to kill the NPC properly myself for the Patrol damage. Edited September 17, 2019 by JVS 1
Sir Texas Sir Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 It's the same concept why forts don't fire at AI, cause folks would abuse the system to get easy kills.
Ink Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 There is no bug, the change was deployed in patch 32: Quote NPC ships no longer can be sank by circles of death in patrols (closing a potential exploit loophole) https://steamcommunity.com/app/311310/discussions/15/3557193237110167834/#c3557193237114337751 1
