Snoopy Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 SoL speed nerf needs to also include the permit ships. While before we had the slight idiosyncrasy that Christian was a bit faster than Bucentaure with this nerf Christian is now more than a full knot faster than the Bucentaure - and across all points of sail. It should be the other way round if anything. Our overloaded 32-24 pd Bellona being faster than the generic 32-18 clone 3rd rate makes no sense either. 5

Slightly in this sentence can be removed, cause removing speed by one knot on ships isn't 'slightly'. You forgot to nerf the Wasa by one knot. Please explain to me why a Santisima is faster than a Pavel and why a Christian is faster than a 3rd Rate when this game is all about SPEED? Also a Victory SHOULD be able to outrun a Santisima, at least on closehaul or just remove the entire ship cause there is no point in using it otherwise. I hope you rebalance it, I do agree that lineships were too fast and I do like to see 4th Rates and USS United States/Constitution usable for PvP again instead of boring Wasas the entire time. Guest Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 (edited) The French Wikipedia page for the Ocean also mentions that, but I do not see a citation. Maybe a French speaker can find one? My browser auto translated it 😆 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_(1790) Edited September 11, 2019 by Guest
Genevieve Malfleurs Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 Thanks for the latest patch dear developer team! The Leopard looks gorgeous! The possibility to capture the big ships will be a very good thing! Keep on!!! Best wishes Gene 1
Marquês do Bonfim Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 One thing that I may suggest that I never undestood why, is; why is capturing a ship less rewardable than sinking one? Meanwhile back in the days, you gained more money by capturing ships, and experience aswell by doing that. I know "Players can keep the ship, they don't need to return it to the Admiralty, so that's why it doesn't reward the player, the reward is the ship itself". Common.

This has been discussed in many threads and the answer is always the same. The value in capture is the ship itself. I personally disagree with this. The real value in PVP (other than the fun) is the completion of missions, which gives you gear. A captured ship should (IMHO) give the same credit to a mission as a sunken ship. Both are removed from your enemy's inventory. There have been many ships that I have sunk, because there is little to be gained from bringing the prize home. Not very historically accurate at all. 3

Like french sailing reports or admiralty tests... wasa for example has some in historical books (and endymion) the reasoning was simple - captured ships will have lower speed than crafted due to upgrades and fittings and shipbuilding capabilities. Overall speed might need an overhaul after port bonuses (including other stats) and will be worked on after the next big patch, together with battle sails improvements.. 6

Also when the source mentions speed and maneuverability of a 74 or even frigate wind speed and weather conditions have to be put in context. Maybe the source references wind speed @Serk like the British sea trials log. Constitution's log shows over 14 knots for a short time in ideal conditions, etc. I would suggest that the constant wind speed we have in NA is not the conditions that would allow a 1st rate or a 74 for that matter, to overhaul a frigate. 2

But within the class speed should appropriately reflect the hull and sailplan differences. Based on hull length and keel ocean should be faster than other first rate lineships. we are hot fixing the speed imbalance across lineships tomorrow. more will come later after the PB/Raid patch. If all the big ships are faster than the smaller ones, why ever sail something small? you are correct Theoretically there IS a light or fair breeze wind speed at which hercules will be faster than Endy. which is what we balance for. max possible speed we do not balance between classes. the bigger the slower I think light breeze and below (with flat sea) is the wind where smaller ships will be faster. 6
