Where do Join Circle Spawn?

Simple question, when a battle is initiated, where do join circle spawn?

Both ships. Draw a line from the tagged ship to the tagger ship and the join circles will be straight opposite.

Elements of the map, such as land or ports have no effect on where the circles appear. The positional relationship of the attacker TO the defender is the only determining factor.

Ok, so it's dependent on the tagged ship's orientation or the tagger's? also, is the join circle for my nation in front of me or behind me, if I am the one being tagged?

If you drew a straight line out at the same angle from which the tag finished at....

(don't forget to add the half-second or so after you hit zero due to de-sync...)
