theSpatchula Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) After listening to everyone feedback on what they were looking for in a cover. I have gathered suggestions and came up with this: Sailors Wanted - Final The Cover on Twitch: Edited February 16, 2015 by theSpatchula 4
Grim DeGrim Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) - Fire on the uproll - by Charles Caldwell - SLVF RN Sailors Wanted First Draft My 2 favorite. Wonderful work to everyone. It's an education to throw one out there and then see these beautiful works. Edited February 16, 2015 by Grim DeGrim 1
marecek05 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) I like the most the Spatula's old timey logo and also the second one with vic... The Caldwell's one seems a bit "naive" to me. I don't mean any offence, still a great work :-) Edited February 16, 2015 by marecek05
Brigand Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 For me, the thing missing in theSpatchula image is the fact that it is a game about the age of sail. Other than that, it stands out from the crowd, a lot (a good thing). ~Brigand
Ned Loe Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 After listening to everyone feedback on what they were looking for in a cover. I have gathered suggestions and came up with this: Sailors Wanted - Final The Cover on Twitch: Very strong text! Good job. Try a burnt edges frame. Tweak image colors, it's too yellow. You can always go through screenshots gallery here on forums to find more images for your cover. theSpatchula Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Thanks everyone for your kind words I have made some changes based on user suggestions. Here are some alternative versions to my precious submissions. 3
Grim DeGrim Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I am biased to the cleaner version with the anchor...or even the one where you made it look older. On a small thumbnail, the ship will not be easily distinguishable (just my opinion...luckily Devs will have many choices to choose from). You are good at this. I like the additional little grace notes with the reflect under "sailors Wanted" in the bottom 2 images. 1
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Really nice effort. To me, the anchor looks too much like a T. Natal Action. 1
theSpatchula Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Good Point Henry, Attached revisions with V in place of anchor: 1
Ned Loe Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Good Point Henry, Attached revisions with V in place of anchor: 2nd one is perfect. Well done.
Charles Caldwell Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I absolutely love the last two... the finish on these images is perfect. If I may id like to add some constructive points....the second image is very similar to the current naval action twitch cover na use. Also have you considered using a white text to make it stand out more? Great work sir.... 1
Ghroznak Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Good Point Henry, Attached revisions with V in place of anchor: I really like the second one. One comment on this one though... could the "Naval Action" title be lowered a bit? The seaspray of the ship in the background is making the "Naval" part of it get a little hidden in the background 'noise' of the seaspray, especially in the thumbnail view. Lots of great art in this thread though I am just jumping on the latest one
theSpatchula Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Glad everyone is feeling pretty good about the second one Ghroznak, I will bring it down a bit and see how it looks, and Henry I will see what it looks like with white. Thanks for the Feedback, its much appreciated.
theSpatchula Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 (edited) Tried white out, still feel like the gold stands out better specially with the spray of water in the background, but take a look. Also moved the naval action piece down slighty. I know its silver but if it was all white it would lose the texturing. Edited February 18, 2015 by theSpatchula 1
Charles Caldwell Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Thanks spatchula.... more quality as per usual, however ill think youll agree the white text doesnt work against the spray of the sea.
theSpatchula Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Agreed on the use of white in the text. It just blends too much in the background, but figured post to see what everyone thought
Johny Reb Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Loving your work Spatula although I'm not a fan of the "bottle cap" one the rest are amazing and the text is perfect. I call the other one the "bottle cap" one because that is what I think of immediately. It stands out in a crowd of other game artwork but there is no messaging in it. The finest thing about NA is its looks but the prominent image is an anchor and you have to look quite closely to make out the underlying ship graphic. It also says nothing about the Action part of Naval Action. Although it does stand out in a crowd, it has nothing that pulls me in. The other two are simply fantastic and I struggle to choose which one I like best. They highlight different things. The first one, the unique world environment and a hint of action and drama with the storm waves and the second one (do i have these in the right order?) the absolute beauty of the game and the age of sail.
theSpatchula Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Thanks Johny, glad you like the final two . Hopefully this is still going on, because they already have a twitch cover on twitch currently haha.
Sir Matthew Latham Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) Thanks everyone for your kind words I have made some changes based on user suggestions. Here are some alternative versions to my precious submissions. Bravo my good man! -edit- The newer ones are great too! Edited February 20, 2015 by Echo4890
Brigand Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 I still think I like this anchor as a 'v' better than the current decorated 'o'. I know you changed it because of comments, but every time I look at it, I go: 'Ah, I liked the old one better'. Just sharing my thoughts on this very nice design. Also, I really like this Game Labs logo by @Deathwoof: Cheers, Brigand

Also, I really like this Game Labs logo by @Deathwoof: Cheers, Brigand I dunno... when I look at the one without an anchor in the O it makes me feel like something is missing... maybe because the top of the O is still decorated so I am sort of expecting there to be... more? Then again.. anchor-V and anchor-O both look great so I can't decide Need more (others) that throw in more suggestions too I would, except the creativity and painting skills I possess are limited to painting the exterior walls of a house
theSpatchula Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Does Game Labs actually have a real logo? The one im using is just the type logo from their site?
Charles Caldwell Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 No they dont.... I personally wouldn't use it.
theSpatchula Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Are you saying shouldn't use the logo above or the one I pulled from game labs site?
