Random Empty battles spawn on OS

As I sailed Swords would show up for 5 sec, and then vanish. Come back after 10 secs and vanish , but now with different nations inside showing 0 vs 0. Rats vs Denmark, Rats vs Dutch etc... 

What is this?

Possibly unrelated but I too have seen battles vanish and reappear 30 seconds later

This is a known very rare issue with a ghost ship, but cannot be reporduced yet
