Sir Madoc Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Hooray... A timescale of when the new content will be added. Faith in NA is restored... Now how did no one spot this earlier? Seems it was posted on the 20th. Oh well at least I now know to keep an eye on the Dev Blog!
Austrum Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Soft launch of early access on steam. can't wait. Yeah I am in the same boat so to speak hehe. I tend to impulse buy games like these and steam makes the easy. Unfortunately, the wait till Friday to get a key thing kind of turns me off. Right now for example, I have a strong desire to buy and play this weekend but since it is already late in the day on Friday, I would have to wait for 7 days for my key
Vlade lArkl Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Super excited cannot wait thank you for the post
Mirones Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 focus is on open world but 3d models of both exist since some time
StormtrooperCaptain Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 What can we expect with the open world testing? Like sailing between Europe & the Caribbean? Or just short distances, like from island to island? Also, is combat found in open world sailing? Or is combat instanced? 1
Brigand Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Combat will be instanced, not a lot of details are yet available. The sailing in the open world will, for now, be confined to the Caribbean. The currently available area to sail in for the alpha stage is 16,000,000 km² (all of the Caribbean and then some). Yet, this should not be interpreted as 'just short distances', because it is a lot of sea and it will take some time before you have crossed the whole area.We are not sure where the actual borders are, or even of the width nor height ratio of the map; this example is 5000 × 3200 km (3,107 × 1,988 miles or 2,700 × 1,728 nautical miles). ~Brigand 1
Mirones Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 only caribbean in prototype, testing in sailing time, battles are instanced because of diffrent timecompression settings
StormtrooperCaptain Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Can we expect the same level of detail put into the sailing part of the game? Instead of having a system that POTBS had, where the open world sailing was more of a board game and had no sense of beauty in it. 1
Sharpe Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 fun thing to try and do once released; see in how far the map matches the Sid Meiers Pirates game.....
Brigand Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 The open world is procedurally generated. Sailing around in the open world happens in 3D, not on a overhead map. There are images in another thread. ~Brigand

To sail across diagonally, it would take about 20 hours.
maturin Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I doubt the map they're making is to scale. That would mean about 14 billion individual trees on the coastlines. Maybe that's achievable if everything is procedurally generated local to the player and not saved, but even Daggerfall's map was only the size of England. https://daggerxl.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/ryuranx_sod_1.png
Brigand Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 The thing you can do with procedurally generated content is near infinite. There is a tech demo from 2010, which shows of the a star galaxy, where everything from stars to individual pebbles in dust rings around planets 'exist'. ~Brigand
StormtrooperCaptain Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 So excited for the next few patches. Hopefully seeing the new ship customization brought in soon!
