ChainsawEcosse Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Hi All, Thought it would be polite to introduce myself. As my gran used to say, "good manners cost nothing!" Been a big fan of computer wargame simulations for my whole computing life, I remember playing Silent Service on the spetrum 48k what feels like 100 years ago! I was a big wargamer and played a lot of Napoleonic Naval board and miniature games and did the usual lots of reading of naval fiction, built a wooden shipmodel etc etc. I spotted Naval Action only very recently and had decided to purchase the pre-release after seeing a couple of the videos on youtube. It looked excellent, I had played Age of Sail II and Napoleon Total War but they never quite hit the mark. I checked out the website, saw the openworld plans and thought 40 bucks was pretty darn good investment and resolved to buy it the next day... Yep the day paypal shutdown their account! I've been out in the cold ever since, watching every one else play! I'm based in Central Scotland, just round the corner from the Carron Iron works where carronades were invented and made. My house was built in 1890 and used to be owned by them when they had become a 'homewares' company (it's in my deeds that I need to give them first refusal when I sell my house) One of the Carron works senior managers was allowed to buy the house cheaply and even my gate post was made by them! We even have carronades in our town centre, we're tripping over the darn things For a day job, I work for a large American software company and travel a fair bit to the US. Other hobbys include target archery, making fixed bladed knives, am a big canoeist and help admin a canoeing forum so kinda know how this stuff works. PS thanks to whoever on the mod team enabled my profile, I think I have two now but I'll get one deleted as soon as I figure out who is who! Looking forward to sailing with you all on line soon during the testing, I like the lower end british cutters, sloops and frigates but wont be adverse to cutting the line in HMS Victory either. Really stoked about the open world concept, can't even get my head round how that's going to play and I expect to be playing this game for years! Cheers, Alan 3
Charles Caldwell Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Welcome aboard Sir..... 48K spectrum a, that'll make you my age sorta, good age! If you are looking to play alongside 'mature' (mostly age related ) like minded folks (some hailing from Scotland) then you wouldn't do far wrong in looking us up. Enjoy Alan, you'll love this game Im sure...
DanielCoffey Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I'll chip in too - I am in Edinburgh myself and also waiting out in the cold with my nose pressed against the PayPal window for the next couple of days. I didn't have a Speccy - I was in the BBC B camp followed by my own Amiga500. I can also state that I became "Elite" on the BBC B from a side Mining Laser shot at a cargo barrel while I should have been revising for my mock O-Levels. Some things you just don't forget!
ChainsawEcosse Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Thanks all! May well join up, I do find joining a 'clan' for online gaming to be a better experience. See you on the water, Alan
