Galvez88 Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 (edited) Hello, I have not been around for a long time and I know that not everyone will like what I say about the nights, thank God there is a variety of opinion but I wanted to express my opinion about the nights, I think they are too short, they last a short time in comparison up to day. I also wanted to say that I would darken them a bit..too much light Edited May 27, 2019 by ManuelSpain 8
Macjimm Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 It would be a huge improvement to add darkness to night time. Not everynight, as some nights are dimmly lit, by the open sky and stars. But with thick clouds, no moon, halfway between the dusk and dawn, the dark would be impenetrable and the water inky black. Such conditions are a traders sweet dream. 2
Admiral Olsen Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 For me it's okay as it is. I'd rather add an option, to completely turn off the day-/night-circle to play only on daytime / nighttime. The same could be thought about weather effects - I don't like any beside sunny days. It's a game, I'd like to customize it!
DeRuyter Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 Ah but weather effects played a big role in the age of sail. It is a shame not to have it in game. 5
Barbancourt Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 True night darkness only lasts a few seconds. It's disappointingly short. Then that pre-dawn fog that silhouettes the ships starts, and as a result it's basically day again. (shouldn't those ships be hidden by that pre-dawn fog?) We need more night. 4
Barbancourt Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 No seeing allowed. Haxxor! It sucks trying to see at night...but that's the whole point. 2
Miaowi Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Sounds all very good and all but I remember trying to hit stuff in stormy weather...... now we'll all randomly be fondling about in the dark... It sounds good in practice but I can only imagine the salt on these forums when battles are lost due to some rng blackout that precludes play whilst it goes on.

Luego comienza la niebla del amanecer que siluetea las naves, y como resultado es básicamente el día otra vez. (¿No deberían estar ocultos esos barcos por la niebla del amanecer?) Necesitamos más noche. that's!!! I think the same. the dark night is too short ..
Angus MacDuff Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 (edited) Nights and storms are necessary evils. We don't need to make them any longer. Edited May 27, 2019 by Angus MacDuff 1
Eyesore Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 The ability to extinguish sternlights 🙂 would work nicely with that. Although, some will just change their gamma on their monitors ... 2
Barbarosa Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 It is interesting to see how the community is interested in immersion while mostly receiving lobby based features. Fully support the suggestion. +1 1
Vernon Merrill Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Everyone loved big storms in battles too.... for maybe the first 5 times.....
DFIL3 Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 (edited) Yes, nights in the Naval Action Carribean are very short and curiously the sunrise is around 2 am which is exactly what happens in June in Northern countries, which are located North of 60 degrees of Northern latitude: Scandinavian countries, Russia, USA (Alaska) and Canada. The more you go to the North, the shorter is the night. But in the game this can be explained by the fact that time is compressed: otherwise we can't sail across big distances very fast. In real Carribean the sunset is around 6 pm and the sunrise around 5 am and the nights are "normal". Please correct me if I'm mistaken with the exact time. Edited May 27, 2019 by DFIL3

Please correct me if I'm mistaken with the exact time. When I visited latitudes similar to the Caribbean was very dark quickly, at about 6 pm, and abruptly light at about 5 am. On moonless nights, the darkness was thick and it very difficult to see. Naval Action is focused on e-sport style competitive fights. Having a distorted 2 hr night with excessive light allows players better visibility to find ships and fight them. Adding features to promote realism is secondary to tweaking the mechanics related to combat. Edited May 27, 2019 by Macjimm 1
