If that was the theory...but it definitely isn't.

I hear yah, but what is the point of keeping the books?

This is just the most ridiculous statement in forums.  As many people have pointed out, it can never be fair for new players because you and I have acquired skill that makes any mods/books/XP irrelevant.

Yes we have skills and training, but a good portion of that can be brought up to speed with new players joining a clan and being trained.

At some point say two or three weeks in, a new person is fighting a veteran both in say surprise ships and the vet has all of the books, he will be at an advantage.

Also, I for one do not have all the books, and can be at a disadvantage at times.

If on the other hand the argument is that the books are not that much of an advantage as some have said, then they will not miss not having the books then as they have not lost anything . . .

because the elites with the combo books would be burning effigies, raising pitchforks, and review bombing I guess...?

I agree with you.  It is the time folks invest that they do not want to loose.   As folks do not want to loose all the time invested in getting the books, i do not want to loose my time leveling.

promises can change darling  we were promised alot of things and many didnt happen...

Don’t call me “darling” grandpa, women these days don’t have to put up with that patronizing shit anymore.

The fact that people don’t get what they were promised when they buy into an Early Access game is exactly why developers get a poor reputation. This is just bad business.

People aren’t buying a “game” in Early Access, they are buying an opportunity to influence a game’s development and participate in its progress along the way. When testers are treated badly then that trust is broken.

I’d probably agree that we are unlikely to see a huge influx of new buyers on release. I know that with reviews as bad as they are on Steam I’d wait until a half-off sale at least to buy into a game that I’d wishlisted but hadn’t purchased yet like this.. so I suspect the major player bump on release will be returnees.

I can guarantee that those returnees would rather not start from square one.

general xp whipe

Shipbook slots: not removed but give every player 3 at least (enough for a good start)

crafting xp: dont whipe.

Books: not whipe but give options to buy them in the admirality (dont force someone to pve at the pvp server)

@Gijon de Ruz y Molina

The Question unfortunately is too narrow in scope to be of value. The implication context is far wider than just your Rank XP. Please read my whole post…

Promotion

The subject of Rank promotion I cover in great detail in the below link. It needs changing in order for it to add value. The Rank Promotion system currently is just a CREW hurdle only. Each Rank promotion needs to add value to the player. This includes XP, time and mission specific reward drops like skill knowledge and books. Over time this builds player retention turning Newbie into Junkie…

https://forum.game-labs.net/topic/28448-do-we-promote-too-fast/

The Equalizer

This idea goes on to show NA-OW client base. The three Categories are very important to understand. The largest and the smallest both don’t actually play the game at present…

https://forum.game-labs.net/topic/28817-idea-the-big-wipe-equalizer/

The Junkie & his Dealer

https://forum.game-labs.net/topic/20652-the-junkie-his-dealer…/

what we learned in the past by allowing RANK, Craft and other redeemable items to cross from the old Boxed Universe into the New one…

Time Experience

Every single NA-OW Tester (including ALTs), will carry with him or her into the new Boxed Universe the time experience they have put into this game prior to its launch. This one thing above all else is a major advantage over the brand-new player…

The Category2 player (largest client group by far), will probably try out the game at launch. However, if starting back at the beginning again could be an issue. The killer would be if he knows that Cat1 players got to keep skills & books etc.

Summary

I think at launch we should have a complete and utter wipe of all things. Otherwise you will not attract and keep Cat1 & 3 players. REALs for Tester time idea is not perfect, but solves a lot of issues and definitely builds the new economy as the average player Rank & Craft level increases.

By allowing Rank to come across you are effectively killing off the REAL economic input the new Boxed Universe would have benefited from…

I think they already decided, as far as I know we lose all XP but keep learned books. That's good enough for me, in fact I think it's better than keeping XP.

I understand what you say, but as they have put the game, earn millions of reales (shipyards in ports with bonuses etc), thousands of doubloons, CM, VM, for all this you need large boats and many hours of trading. With boats of sixth and seventh category, this is going to be interminable and what is worse, every time there is less action because you are tied to doubloons, real, VM and CM. If it already costs now that we still have large ships and the range imagine what will be starting from zero.

I don't care what is wiped ... At release, but,

future wipes should be announced before the release.  Because players should be told if they will be investing time that will be lost.

And they might go ahead and change something else before release.  There are no guarantees in this and I don't like to consider what they have said so far as "promises".  It's more like speculation and easily changed.  They are going to do what they think is right for the game and frankly, I don't care.  It will be playable at whatever level it starts at.  Even if it started us all at zero with no tutorial boost, we would all be in (at least) Snows on day one.

Some who dedicate the first day many hours, they may finish the same commanding a snow with the full crew (I refer to the example you put if there was no tutorial), but most that you can devote a couple of hours a day to the most (do not forget that we also work outside the game) will end the day commanding a pickle or similar. And that is not equality. That the veterans degrade us captain of ship, well ... we can still take a decent boat, but midshipmen sincerely it seems excessive to me.

Attachment is the impediment to enlightenment. Let go of today for tomorrow. It's the formula to success.

If you have faith in the game, you would be okay with restarting. What's there to be afraid of? If the game is good then you'll be refreshed with a wipe at release.

There is nothing to be done to change the fact that some players have more time to dedicate to the game than others.  Nothing will change the fact that many of the players have acquired a great deal of skill and when we restart with the tutorial, the world will be filled with good players in Herc/Req/pandora on day one.  Anything that we carry forward (XP, books..even Ships) will make no difference to a new player.

Since we are testing the game, it is ok for me to start again at release.

All the vet players won't need long to be back on highest rank, so there shouldn't be a problem.

I would say that for pvp yes it has to happen but pve, nothing to be gained by a scrub. I expect I'll give up the game if its scrubbed on pve.
