Heated Shot?

Hey there sailors:

 

I was curious to as if heated shot will ever make an appearance in the game, via shore batteries or even ships. I know there was only a handful of ships equip with a furnace to even produce heated shot as it was deemed far too dangerous to have aboard a ship but I know the USS Constitution was one that had a furnace on-board. Maybe it takes an extremely long time to produce and you are required to have skilled crew to work the furnace.

 

I am only interested as fire and how it will effect the game has now been brought up,  and this raises many many questions.

I'm sure shore batteries, when they make an appearance, would be able to use it.

 

 

As for ships...maybe, some day in the future when this game is much further along, perhaps particularly courageous captains could have the ability to modify their ship to carry such an installation on board...

Heated shot will be very hard to balance. If it is powerful everyone will be using it (like explosive or bronze ammo at Potbs).

I thought of heated shots being specifically a forts ammo. Like the admin said, I think it was used very rarely in ship to ship battle but wasn't it quite common for a fort to use it? I would think balancing it would require a much longer reload. The ball itself wouldn't do anymore damage than a regular shot of its size I would think. There would just be a chance of fire so a maybe a magazine hit would more likely cause an explosion.

IMO heated shot should only be available for land-based batteries.

 

The use of heated shot on ships was so very rare that it's simply not necessary (or desirable) to simulate it in-game.
