  3. 3. Would you use the Cherubim/Frigate, St.Pavel and/or Ingermanland more if they were the only ships able to equip the Edinorogs?

    • No, but it would be more tempting than before.

We all think its cool to smash the edinorogs on both of our gundecks and smash the opponent with high caliber light cannons with an reload similar to 9pd cannons.

But i've been thinking about the St.Pavel, Ingermanland and Cherubim/Frigate.

These ships are rarely seen in combat and arent Meta, for instance you have the Bucentaure with more firepower, carronades and hp and the Pavel heels alot which makes it struggling against leaks.

You have the inger with the 32pd longs as 4th rate of course but people would prefer agamemnon because of the hull shape, hp and tankier overall.

And then you have the Cherubim/Frigate which is basically a downcalibered pirate frigate.

Therefore thinking about it locking the edinorogs only to be available for russian ships would make it more tempting to use them in OW combats or port battles, it would also give the ships some own character and a reason why you should choose those ships. Please vote and im interested in hearing what anyone else has to say about the suggestion :)

TLDR; Edinorogs for locked for russian ships (St.Pavel, Cherubim/Frigate and Inger) to make them more attractive to use and have some of their own character.

Either way the pavel needs it's other lay out of 18's instead of the 9's that we have now to make it fit better with the 2nd rates.  I would like to see other type of guns like the Edinorogs in game for other national ships we have.   That and the dang 42's should only be on ships that actually used them and the other 1/2 should be force to use the 36's not both, but with this team your never going to see historical or balance any more at this rate.

If you want it to be accurate you would only be able to equip limited number of edinorogs on specific decks, as far as I can remember only a couple of ships were experimentally equipped with them on a full gun deck for a fairly short period of time. Also if I remember correctly the ships armed with these spectacular weapons were all much larger than Cherubim, the smallest of which would be roughly the Russian equivalents to Endymion, Indefatigable and Constitution. Typically speaking they would just be deployed in assignments of about 6-10 on ships of the line. There's no real reason to restrict them to a specific national ship because there's nothing really holding them back from being deployed on theoretical foreign ships captured by the Russians.

Ideally if you want to change them to being most accurate in terms of deployment they should just replace carronades on the top decks of the largest ships and probably lose some of their historical prowess and just behave somewhat like a long carronade, even despite their historically high accuracy at long ranges. Alternatively keeping them more accurate to how they performed youd need to be able to mount a few of them on your main gun decks while still relying on using a majority of standard guns.

AFAIK no ship in game historically had 42pd cannons. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Victory before she was reduced to 32s.

true about the cherubim, maybe its to small, limit it to russian 4th rates and up, i red that they had some edinorogs on the deck, not a full gundekc of them, but GL already said if the ship was able to carry one single cannon on the deck it could carry it across their whole deck in this game like the Victory with the 68pd weather deck carronade :)

Did she have 32's on her bottom two decks?  That is what I want to see is a ship that runs 32's on both bottom and middle deck. Don't care about the top deck or any others, but would like to match those up.  Nothing has larger than 24's on the second deck.   To bad they didn't code it so you where limited on weight not cannons ratings.

Victory didn't, later first rates did (later Caledonia class ships) have all-32pd layout, but these were custom made lighter guns on the higher gun decks, including carronades on top.

On topic: +1 for Edinorogs on Pavel, this could be the thing that makes her viable -1 to giving her 18s. Yes she carried them, but they removed them again straight away, by comparison Victory carried 42pds for more than 10 years in service before they were taken off and it had nothing to do with them not being viable, like ships of her age she was designed for that weapon.

Note: French/Spanish 36pd = 39pd British so these things are almost on the 42pd level.

No Edinorogs at all in game. That would be the best. And if, then make them so rare, that every 10 000th sealed bottle has 100 of them.

Balance eh?
