I just filled in the poll and surprised to say that I voted for everything to stay as is. Mainly because the HP values of most, if not all, ships got adjusted today.
So to bring the US/Connie back to 4th and the Indef back to 5th you now would have to signifcantly nerf them, which is not an option in the poll. Personally I think the US/Connie is a fair bit too tanky as is. Definitley values of a thrid rate ingame though.

so it's how it works when things change - our votes and opinions change with it.

as I said elsewhere - I personally think the HP changes have made ships incredibly well balanced - My only issue is the 5th rate disparity with some ships is kinda crazy.

@Sir David Green I believe a slight correction - the Christian can be crafted now. If I am wrong then someone please correct me.

I'm not quite sure. Does it show up in your shipyard as craftable? I'm not high enough level at crafting to see for myself.

The tougher challenge is to get the permits from chests only.

Still desperately trying to get a poor Niagara permit. Placed a few juicy contracts in busy ports to no avail.

@OP : Agree with most of your post, including the usefulness of the recategorized ships. I still used to try and hunt with the USS John Deere and the Connie because I like to change every now and then and try something different, and it was doable on PvE. A bit more difficult, but doable.

Unfortunately these recategorized ships overall low perf combined with recent "new AI philosophy" made such activities suicidal. Shame.

More on why the in-game Indefatigable is not a 4th rate. Which build version do we have in game? I believe it is the 1795 razeed 44 gun 5th rate version. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Indefatigable_(1784) "Indefatigable was thereafter rated as a 44-gun fifth-rate frigate, along with Magnanime and Anson, which were converted at about the same time."
It certainly does not have 2 gun decks, nor does it have 64 guns like the original 1761 design that was a 3rd rate at the time. Granted, the devs could call it a 1st "class" or 10th "class" if they choose. But it would be nice to try to keep ships closer to where they belong. And this having so few guns compared to other 4th rates makes this ship completely useless for any 4th rate activities....especially with a BR higher than the Ingermanland that has higher caliber guns and 1 entire deck more guns.

Just watch the video and enjoy...

I think issue with constitution and indefatigable  is that none is standard frigate one is super frigate other is razee. I have no idea why Indefatigable is now 4th rate, but i suspect that Constitution is 3rd rate becouse of her Armor HP.

So i would sugest too devs:

Lower connies side Armor HP to 12000 and increase thickness too 80.

Indef can probably take on any 4th rate in a broadside battle and stand a reasonable chance, but it would never turn into a broadside battle, any real 4th rate would board and the battle would be over in minutes.

Infer should get 2 decks of 68 pounders like HMS Glatton to be able to stay in 4th rates otherwise it's just a glorified 5th rate

Few patches back when carronades were properly powerful it could stand up to other 4th rates.. now? not a chance coz the carronades have been nerfed to the point they're mostly obsolete

Carronades are supposed to be OP and should have the same base damage as the medium guns of the same caliber but the range/penn values should be reduced to half for balance

Now there is very little compromise between mediums and carronades and it should be more tactical than this.. more high risk high gain situation

i know last part is a bit off topic sorry it's just to justify my oppinion

Situation is slightly less absurd than on day 1 thanks to Agamemnon's broadside weight adjustment (a very welcome change) but there's still work to do.

A friend of mine just hit Post Captain and I thought let's just go for a 4th rate because I know how much enjoyment you get from having something that starts looking like a SOL. I thought even if slightly undercrewed, he'll be happy and will stick to the game a little longer (working well, we pulled 3 other friends back in game).

Checked out different options... Here's what it looks like strictly in terms of crew.

Indefatigable : 350
Wapen : 470
Ingermanland : 470
Agamemnon : 500

USSUS : 450 yay!

And this is not the only place where numbers are odd... If you start comparing HP and broadside weight it gets worse. But the fact that a player can jump from a 5th to a 3rd and skip 4th rate altogether is not right, if you want some form of logic in the progression.
