 So this suggestion was made by another player in game.  It was such a monumental suggestion I had to post it.

 

Now that the clans are going to be given the right to determine port defense upgrades in the upcoming patches.  The suggestion was to make one of these upgrades an R-Zone around the port but with one caveat.   The Reinforcements around the port are supplied by Clan crafting and placed into a pool at the port.  These AI can be lost so that there is not Reinforcements if the Clan cannot afford it or fail to supply them.  They can arrive in a similar fashion as now or possibly in a fashion that the clan can pay for.

 

(hope I got that correct)

I don't think we actually know for certain that clans are determining port defense.

I only know of port management including the ability to add resources that are already there?

Well this comment in the post about upcoming events makes us think you will have to buy forts somehow for your ports. 

 

 

Fortifications improvements

  • Clans and their friends will be able to develop fortifications to protect their holdings
  • All current fortifications on map will be removed

I can get behind this; increase the amount of upkeep on the port for every ship you send to reinforce, AI ships are then actual player built/capped ships which would mean there is more reason to craft/cap AI, when attacking a player in the R-Zone, sinking the AI would still be doing a bit of damage against the owning clan. Hunters wouldn't need to deal with the super-built ships the AI has now, not that they usually help much. A few rounds of chain and they are out of the fight for the most part. 

There would just need to be a way to prevent someone's alt of the same nation from getting tagged and letting enemy fleet just grind down the clan's ships. 

@admin, what is your opinion on something like this?

oh!

was that recent? I remember them talking about it a year or so ago but it never really hit off.

Players should do the defending of their waters. A nice idea would be to give players 1.5 rewards or so for home waters defense. Think of it as a gift from Admiralty for risking pvp against pvpers. Coastal patrol is good content imo.

what are home waters?  Are they your nation capital or are they your Clans major hub?

The current RZ.  I guess it could work for all ports but that could be a problem in rvr. Would reward the hunted more.
