IIN8II Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Had some fun in photoshop speculating on what stormy weather could look like eventually. 5
Balck Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Too much canvas (as in no one in their right minds would fly that much canvas in a storm) Other than that, well done.
weirdguy Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Which brings up a question. Will going full sails in a storm scenario be possible (it should) and will it cause damage to your own sails (it should)? 1
Bixol Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 At the moment no dmg is done from stormy weather i don't remember any statement from admin for a future like this
Vasco Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Sails need to be set for the conditions, including the ability to reef sails which we don't currently have. I'd like to see an increasing chance of substantial damage to the sails (being ripped or ripped away and flapping in the wind), masts and yards (losing a section or even a whole mast) if the ship is carrying too much canvas. Also, too much sail in storm conditions should include the risk of taking on a lot of water and risk the ship capsizing when sailing close to beam reach. 2
BungeeLemming Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 When you prepare for a storm you remove all the gallants. That only leaves you on the lower masts with the fore, main and mizzenmast yards. Ingame you cannot reproduce this kind of sailconfiguration. btw: I think you did too much "washing" with the colours in your first image. The second one looks nicer. Also you can consider gey-ing the sails. They look very white.
Megiddo Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I was in a storm last night and thought the same thing... everyone was flying all sails. Not going to happen in a storm. I know at this point it's not an issue, but I agree... damage to sails in the future based on weather would be interesting. But great images IIN8II.
IIN8II Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 Thank you, I am sure that there will be damaged penalties for going full sail in heavy winds at some point in the future. btw:I think you did too much "washing" with the colours in your first image. The second one looks nicer. Also you can consider gey-ing the sails. They look very white. The first image is made to look like a painting/concept are rather than in game footage.
Grim DeGrim Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 A Captain's Description of the Ship's Condition After a hurricane: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/2878-a-captains-description-of-his-ships-condition-after-a-hurricane/#entry58090
Kheran Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Very nice concept art Regarding the storms, am I the only noticing that it's a lot easier to get broken masts during them ? Never had those on calm weather, but as soon as a storm map pops, several ships lose theirs.
azazel Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 someone once said in a match, that in a storm the masts are under more stress cause of the strong winds, so they break more easily when hit. not sure if this physic is (already) in game, but it seems so and would explain it. or maybe people just aim more often at masts in a storm btw. nice pics
