Port battles are a step-up from regular fleet battles. They require an element of planning, of fleet allocation, of positioning at start, and last but not least, of tactical decisions made during the battle.

I, and many others, would like to have the opportunity to have a go at this advanced level of fighting against the AI.

- Mechanism already exists on Peace Server for hostility missions. Work it in the same way that it operates on the War server, fighting against AI.

- Port ownership does not need to change hands. Stays neutral or original national flag, available to all, in conjunction with the  programme the developers have recently announced for future Port activity.

- Maintain the same port battle BR limits as the War Server.

- Rewards for winning to be commensurate with the challenge.

Suggestions welcome.

So, how you see an advantage for clans winning such mock port battles? Exclusive rights on spawning resources at this place? Discount prices?

We have to bear in mind people are reluctant to risk their precious SOLs if there is not something to be won which equals the risk.

Could also be a 'port raiding', which does not change ownership after all, just loots the complete port shop and distributes the booty among participants of that raid.

Lets see what these new mechanics mention in the Devs post yesterday.  Though I have suggested this with having maps reset every 3 months.  This way ports can be owned by a clan and controled.  Believe me you won't be missing out on things cause there is still tons of ports out there that will stay neutral or open to all.  It will give more content for the PvE server and allow ya'll to get more group play.  From what I seen it is more solo play over there cause there is nothing really to do as a group for the most part.

On the PVE server SOL can be capped from AI, losing one is not devastating.  I played on PVE once and started with basic cutter and capped my way up to a 1st rate, intentionally NEVER buying a ship, it was challenging and fun.  Having mock port battles with AI that equals BR for the port sounds like it would be very popular, when coupled with Sir Texas' suggestion to reset map every 3 months.

I really don't like the idea they have announced. I see only constraints and little to no fun.

I'm all up for a PvE version of port battles. The ideal would be to have the same combat mechanism, without affecting port ownership. As we cannot compete VS other players, a good compromise might be to have some sort of blockade on highly populated ports, making it impossible to buy or sell anything in there unless the AI has been defeated.

I think allowing the Peace Server to have consensual PvP and consensual Port Battles would be nice.

But I also think that those options would be against what the Peace server currently markets. Do we want to try and make the peace server a stepping stone to join the war server? I think the biggest thing is that people join the Peace server to get their bearings of the game. they then choose to stay there or try to war server...many times they go back not because of the pvp or the difficulty, but because us players are toxic horrible people.

The community on the war server at large needs an intervention and an attitude adjustment if they ever want more players to play with them.

The problem is many of those toxic players are the ones that don't leave, they stick around and keep being toxic as we loose more and more players.  It's a power thing to them, they have power right now so no reason for them to leave the game.   Devs don't help by taking away more and more things that protect the average, new and casual players that we need to stick around to have proper numbers in game.

You'd be surprised how many PvE players favor the idea of consensual duels in general. I have to emphasize the 'consensual' aspect of it, forced participation like in a classic PvP gank are not acceptable to them. I can imagine same goes for 'consensual port battles' with people joining for a reason.

If we have the duel zone within patrol zone for the duels on invitation, I think the overall PvE character of this server is still being maintained. A small area opposite our huge map, and even in that small area nobody will be sunk without having agreed to the risk.

Will elaborate on all this in a suggestion thread soon to come.

Bearing in mind that Port Battles are the highest level of fighting in NA. I am thinking that the rewards for participating in, and winning a port battle would be along the lines of ship notes, top level upgrades/books, a quantity of rare woods - these kinds of things.

I am not thinking about taking port ownership, as we don't fight eachother on the peace server, and so port ownership has little or no meaning. There is therefore no need or desire to deprive other players of the resources from any port.

I'm mostly interested in the workings of a Port Battle, participating, not so much the port itself. Ports have different BR levels and some seem to be more complex to capture. A challenge over and above the straight-up fleet fights we undertake.

To be continued in due course.

A lot of us do undertake fleet battles together. Both same nation and mixed nation against a common enemy. It's happening all the time.
