Prince of Whales Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 very beautiful models, gentlemen. But tell me, can your ships do this? HMS Victory 1:100 scale "conversion" maiden voyage <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TgHGXCpgjEk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> mock battle HMS Victory vs USS Constitution 1:96 scale <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/j8ZcxjiH8ys" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> entangled <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-wxbU0j-czg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Constitution and Victory were quick and dirty RC conversions of plastic kits from my local model store to test the feasibility of RC warship combat under pure sail power. The regular sport uses WWI and WWII era warships, armed with ball bearing cannons and balsa wood armor, designed to fight, damage, and sink each other repeatedly. It looks sorta like this: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wvugEmj3pO0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The sailing models were wildly successful. Constitution ran in the 2011 SFMYC warship regatta's maneuvering contest, and was both the only sail-powered entry and the only ship to complete the entire obstacle course without striking a single obstacle. She tacked, she wore, she reversed, and she crabbed sideways in her quest for the prize, and she outmaneuvered every electric boat on the pond. I have several 1:48 scale frigates in the early stages of construction for armed combat, rather than just proofs of concept. The larger models will be much easier to build and detail than the smaller ones. 4
Mirones Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 got no pond to play around with such stuff and would mostlikely be one only one in my region but maybe i can get pictures of the "adler von Lübeck" modell made in 1943 that we got at the watersport club that i am in maybe i buy a small plastic kit enxt week to keep me busy waiting for next patch 1
Aracno Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) Little update, new hammock net, topsail and topgallant. Edited April 14, 2015 by Aracno 1
Tom Pullings Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 VERY nicely modeled sails and netting. For the non-modelers out there, sails are particularly hard to do so that they look prototypical, and you all should be impressed. :-) 2
Theuerdank Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) Corel models are anyway fine looking models (if well built ), but i am also impressed about the fine 'sail-look'. You reached really a 'natural' appearance of the shapes, not only a crumpled piece of cloth. Edited April 15, 2015 by Theuerdank
Aracno Posted April 15, 2015 Author Posted April 15, 2015 Thank you very much Tom and Theuerdank, this is my first time with sails, so yours compliments are very welcome!
Theuerdank Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) I must really say you must have not only the fingers to make such things, also the needed eye for the right look. Often seen very fine models, best built and fine painted, but the sails......... . Some modellers make wooden ships and leave the models without 'cloth' because its obviously something not easy to convert in smaller scales. I like to view those results Edited April 15, 2015 by Theuerdank

Ned Loe Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Ebay sells nice ones as well. Every sailor should have one on their desk.

SeamanStaines Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I bought a wooden model of the Royal Louis in Vietnam at a much lower cost and although its not plank construction its still impressive. I would happily share a picture if I could work out how to attach!
SeamanStaines Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Thanks Mirones but being a dummy I cant work out how to paste the link here. Frustrating! 1
Justme Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I could see it now, come home from a long day at work, and my 6 year old would of sunk my two thousand dollar model in the bathtub.
ObiQuiet Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I could see it now, come home from a long day at work, and my 6 year old would of sunk my two thousand dollar model in the bathtub. Fill the bath tub with an expoxy sea, and mount the model in it.
MikedaBike Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 This is a great shot of the Victory cross section from the site linked above, nice to see what ya shooting at lol..!
Justme Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Fill the bath tub with an expoxy sea, and mount the model in it. I'll let you explain that to my wife
