Aracno Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I'd like to know if other NA mates have some experience in ship models, and of course i would like to see their work. Personally i did two models, a baltic ketch and a frigate by COREL model kit, i'm not totally happy with them, especially the shape of frigate's keel, but I think they are not bad for a beginner. The frigate is not finished yet. 16
Illusive Tabby Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I've never built a model like that, most of the models I have built (and lost) have been WWII era warships. However, I do have an old model my dad found in a garbage can (along with a beautiful sword) that I'll take some pictures of when I get home.
Mirones Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 http://www.model-shipyard.com/html/zestawyuk.html i'm thinking of buying our cutter there and or some other
Illusive Tabby Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Navio Espanol Juan de Austria And incase anyone had any interest in the sword I was given, 2
Illusive Tabby Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 You can clearly see how often I dust the ship off with the amount of dust that has collected on her. I think it's the first time she's moved since I moved two years ago.
Diceman Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Long time plastic scale modeler. Have three of the Revell Constitutions to do as three of the original six frigates. President, United States, and Constitution. Looking for the other three now... Looks like I'll have to go the wooden ship route for that... I'm starting up in the wooden ship model arena now... Starting the college of model ship building offered by Lauck Street Shipyard now.
Captain_Avatar Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Holy cow Batman! Aracno - I doff me cap to ya Guvnor. If you're a beginner...... Cheers
Aracno Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 @ Diceman: I did a plastic ship model when i was a little kid, but they are not so good as they are for airplane, tank, etc etc Wood models are expensive, both the kit and the already built models, the last very expensive when high quality. If I will do another one i will go for plans only, after all are the only thing you really need, all the wood, cannons, rigging, etc etc can be bought at cheaper price in a good model kit-shop. @ Allegra: Thanks mate.
Mirones Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 another thing i found are paper models out of thick paper sheets 11
Megiddo Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Beautiful stuff guys. I've wanted to get into this many times but just couldn't dedicate the time. And probably don't have the skills. I did build the large Revell USS Constitution plastic models. http://www.amazon.com/Revell-1-96-USS-Constitution/dp/B0006I8PP8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421790332&sr=8-1&keywords=revell+uss+constitution Built it twice. First was destroyed in a move (I was about 14-15 when I built it... I'm 52 now, So it's been a while). Watching the Constitution sailing around (albeit sinking me) has be wonderful!!! 1
Tom Pullings Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Nice work on the COREL kit. Very good, Aracno. And very nice admiralty model out of paper, Mirones. I've never tried that. I do ship models. Takes a long time, but I very much enjoy it. Here's one I have some pics of, the HMS Halifax. 5
MarcoRossolini Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Been meaning to get into this, some very fine specimens there gentlemen.

I think i will paint the next one, i like the "wood only" appearance, but colored looks more realistic. The Corel Unicorn is nice but is just a "generic ship of the era", there are too much inaccuracy to be called "historically correct". Yesterday i did the hammocks stowage and also tried to make some hammocks (too big, isn't it?) 1

Really beautiful... BTW.
Tom Pullings Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I think the width is probably fine, if, as it appears, you have six on the larboard side, but they are too large overall. I believe you should be able to stack them within the parameters of the netting (which looks quite to scale to my eye). Oh, and the guns are on the gun deck, so they would be targeted by looking through the gun ports.
Aracno Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 @ Megiddo: the hammock are less haight than the rudder (rudder should be, plus or minus, haight as a man), so the red clothes can shoot above the hammock stowage. @Tom: I will try several size and material, actually is more like a double size hammock, there is space for a woman of easy virtue when the ship is in the port. Not sure admiralty would have appreciated it ....
ChainsawEcosse Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Only one for me Artesania Latina Le Hussard. Was a long time ago when we had just had kids and weren't able to go out much, certainly filled in the time! Only got one shot loaded into photobucket will try and get a couple more.. 3
Tom Pullings Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Yes, I'd like to see other shots of it Chainsaw. What I see in this one shot looks good! I'm working on a canoe at the moment. Hull is built, about to start interior. Here's a Peapod that I've finished. I like doing smaller boats in between the big projects. 7

Aracno Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Rigging done, what a nightmare .... New hammock, i will use this. 1
Galileus Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Any 3D artists in here? Well, not counting the employees
Aracno Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 I did some 3D models for IL2 1946, but airplane only, sorry. Cant Z506 Cant Z1007 Fulmar 8
Jeremiah O'Brien Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I'm currently working on the USS Constitution, it's my first model ship. Up until now I've only focussed on planes. As a matter of fact, I've had my Constitution sitting in the box for a few years now, this game inspired me to take it out and start working on it. 2
Aracno Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Little update, working to the sail, first time for me, need a lot of work but i like the result so far. . 2
