Basically a reputation system, with a bit of degradation..

I'd like to suggest a reputation system. One for trading, grow in ranks and get better prices for your wares, one for raiding, make a kill (PvP) more than 100k from any home port and the more your reputation rises you can unlock fx. different paints on the ships to denotate the various accomplishments, Coast guard, make a kill less than 25k from closest home port and grow in ranks and unlock a different set of paints (or whatever), crafting rep - grow in crafting reputation and get more choices in terms of trims (remove the 5/5 ships, they've done nothing good for real PvP), Post-officer (from junior leutenant to flag officer?) a title to parade in front of your peers in PBs and chats?

Two things is important, one is: It shouldn't add to an already exceptionally unbalanced game. And it should degrade over time, fx. make rear-admiral in PBs and stop participating in PBs for 3 months? - back to square one. Same with trading, crafting, raiding, patroling etc.

For some of the new mission types you could add courier for deliveries etc.

A widely accepted thought and I think it would do wonders for the game.

It could turn into a system that promotes activity, and specialization.

Wouldn't a reputation system help create dynamic restrictions? I think so, but it would have to be thought out carefully. I can see a reputation system working in place with our current ranking system to allow folks with higher reputation access to sailing bigger ships at full crew - or at least have the crew be more well trained.

A proper system would not negatively impact a person who doesn't play often. A person who plays often or works for his/her reputation would get benefits though.
