Thomas Blackwell Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 It doesn't really matter whether you are a writer, a role-player, or someone like me who's just got too much time on his hands. I'm willing to bet there are others out there who have been working on back stories and lore regarding the ships they will eventually be able to sail in Naval Action. This thread is a place for such people to share those stories. Perhaps you worked your way up through the ranks of a nations navy until you were given the command of a mighty frigate, or perhaps you are a merchant turned pirate. What ever the tale, lets hear it! HMS Bermuda HMS Bermuda was a 14 gun brig-sloop named after the country in which she was first laid down. She was sold into the Royal Navy in 1795 but saw little action during her short career. While on a cruise in the Gulf of Florida, she sighted a strange vessel and began her pursuit. By mid-afternoon she had caught the vessel and lay in along side. The vessel; an American merchant of six guns and twenty men was quickly boarded by the crew of the Bermuda. The action was short but bloody and the Bermuda took heavy losses, including her commanding officer Lieutenant Jonathan Davidson. Once the American merchant had been secured the Bermuda's first officer, Lieutenant Thomas Blackwell ordered that she be taken as prize into Halifax, Nova Scotia. Comprising the prize crew from Lieutenant Davidson's supporters, Blackwell quickly won the loyalties of the remaining men aboard the Bermuda. Together the remaining officers and crew defected, sailing the Bermuda south into Port De Prince where she was refit and renamed Gloriana. 4

Sharpe Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 hmm, probably biting off more then I can chew here but: St Eustatius harbor, somewhere during the 1780's Despite my ship of the line being called Hercules and the pride of the navy of the United Provinces, I didn't feel anything like the character of the old Greek lore. Perhaps it had something to do with the little celebrational dinner we had put on last night for Jacob, the first Lieutenant. Or perhaps it was the uniform, wearing the bicorn and coat came with the rank, this much I knew, but the heat of St Eustasius, along with the lack of wind added a load of its own, which made me feel uncomfortable. But that wasn't what was on my mind. The foremost thing on my mind, was curiosity. Why did Governor Pieterszoon want to see me, not at my convenience, but at the earliest possibillity? The admirality orders I had received back in Holland had said nothing about the governor's status nor that I was to report to him upon arrival. I still felt a little uneasy Climbing down into the whale boat, but I was beginning to feel better. By the time the boat pulled up to the dock I was sure I would be close to being sobered up. A small escort of two Marines and a Sergeant was waiting for me at the end of the somewhat busy dock, and those escorted me to the Governor's mansion. For some odd reason I felt as if I was being watched by people who had no good intentions on their mind for me. Just before our small party entered the rather lavish looking mansion I noticed two of the servants scurrying off. Not much later I was in the office of his excellency the governor of St Eustatius, a gentleman trader by the name of Martin, who was rather absorbed by his paperwork. I removed the bicorn and waited until he spoke " You are early, are you not, captain Sybrandz?" It was as much a statement as it was a question, and yet, there was an acerbic tone to it, as if I was an intruder. I didn't like it, at all. I found it even stranger that he hand't looked at me at all. Most officials and even the civil servants at the admiralities looked at you from time, be it rather with contempt at times, but that was another matter entirely. " We had favorable winds, excellency." I kept my voice as neutral as possible. What was going on here? " Yes, I suppose you had indeed. I suppose its just one of those things that can't be influenced." Inwardly I frowned. " Your excellency?" Then he did look up, and I noticed two things. Governor Martin still had very strong steellike eyes, eyes like you find on certain admirals as well. And in those same eyes there was note of both sadness and anger,as if I had gotten in the way of something..... 2
Dio Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Sadly I don't have a story or character set up for the game just yet, but fear not! I will have one, as I'm one of those people who can't get full enjoyment out of a game unless they can make up a character and at least keep a bit of head canon. I doubt there will be a return of my POTBS frenchie, as I'm not even sure what nation to really throw my support behind.
Devante del Nero Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Capitan Devante del Nero was once a respected officer and one of the finest marksmen in the Spanish Royal Navy -- that is, until he lost his eye in a firefight with a British Man-O-War... The pursuit of his vengeance led him outside the confines of his orders, even into a Court Marshall -- an event the enraged Capitan never managed to attend, having taken his ship and men (the majority by their solitary nature more loyal to captain than country, and the remainder... discharged...) to the waters of the Americas, seeking a path free from the incessant politics of the service. He still seeks revenge for the loss of his eye, and hears there are elements of the freshly forming new world governments that are... flexible in their alliances. 1

Anto Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I am a Spanish nobleman who has purchased a commission in to the Royal Spanish Armada, started off as a midshipman, but I got easily promoted to Lt because off my... ties and birth and of course passing the Lt. exam. Now that I was an officer, I had to become a proper gentleman, thing was, I was already one, thus I was born in a Noble family, and you are teached to become a gentleman as soon as you are able to talk... After serving on various ships, such as the Santisima Trinidad (one of the first officers to serve on it, embarked on Cuba, Havana, 1769) and then served again after it had been reformed... Anyway, I Recently got promoted to Frigate captain... I want to become a Ship-of-the-line Captain... It's not that I don't like my Frigate, but to be fair, ive always wanted to be the Captain of a ship like the Santisima, or perhaps the Santa Ana, and perhaps getting to a position of power, like Commodore, or perhaps Fleet Admiral, only time will tell... That's my story... Thanks for your time. 2
