inexplicable Possible tagging bug

There was a tagging incident 20 minutes ago in OW.

A req + niag tried to tag a herc. 240 BR trying to tag 170 BR and they got a "BR too high" error message.

If this isn't a bug then what are we missing or what could have caused it?

The case is under investigation but definitely there is no bug related to general BR difference calculation as it was tested by us on internal server. BR was more than enough to be able to tag.

In such cases, please send a F11 report right away as it helps a lot.

just tested internally both sides can attack each other. 
other issues were present? Distance between attackers too high?

Was thinking the same. Maybe there was a storm and nearby AI fleet was invisible to attackers but prevented the tag from initiating.

NPC does not take into consideration in BR tag mechanic (but yes - it was tested with NPC as well just to check).

I wonder if maybe ping was an issue and we were actually outside of the circle (Not on our screen), but still got BR message rather than out of range message. I have really low ping (30) but maybe Benedict had different ping you would have to ask him to clarify.
