Guest Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 (edited) Once a player (or group) has tag another and has created a battle instance, then a maximum BR limit is set and a “minimum BR limit” is set. Maximum BR limit = Joinable BR force to the battle. Minimum BR limit = The level that has to be reach before the maximum BR limit can expand/increase (minimal BR limit to reach before an increases can take place). E.g. As the weaker side adds more players/ships/BRs to balance the engagement and that side reaches the minimum BR limit, then the maximum BR limit increases, allowing for more players to join on both sides (both sides will have to reach or better the minimum BR limit before the maximum can increase). This way there can be only a one or two ship or a minimal BR offset/advantage, keeping the battle reasonably balanced but also a way to keep increasing the initial battle size as more players join both sides. This won’t stop all ganking like 2 to 1 but it will reduce gross imbalances like 5 to 1 or more, nor will it control ship class imbalances but they are somewhat govern by speeds anyway. Setting initial maximum and minimum BR limits and BR level increases could be based on the initial class of ships tagged and the rate could be exponential or based on the joining ship class or joining BR totals. A new “available to join BR” limit would have to be shown in OW join battle tab too, adjusting as more players/ships join. Edited January 23, 2019 by Guest

Well that’s good news because it means the code to generate this mechanic has already been develop. “beyond salvation”, floating BR limit is for initial battle build-up, not for players trying to join after the timer. Couple this suggestion with another; “having the OW joining circles expand outwards ^move apart^ (over time) from the first point (^OW location, crossed swords^) of the tag and so increasing the distance of engagement from within the battle instance.” Then Dev’s could push the timer out to 5 minutes (solving other concerns), any player arriving late (within 5m) would suffer the penalty of a sailing distance (in the battle instance) to the initial engagement location. I joined July 2018 so have limited/no knowledge of prior “removed” mechanics but in the here & now, today, Dev’s are looking for ways to curb ganking, so maybe some of those old mechanics might work better today.
