Lord Gud Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 I ask many people if they like this "Port Quest" battle system compared to the old system and most of people do not like it at all. Is there any plan of reworking this system because it takes too long to grind compared to the old solo mission/fleet mission system where you could pick a mission that suits your needs. Now it seems like missions are randomized and very unbalanced such as a rank 5 mission that makes you fight a rank 3 ship or a rank 4 mission that makes you fight a rank 2 ship. I have no other possible missions I can do that are balanced for what I can do so I have to go out in OW and find a decent fleet that probably takes 15+ minutes to find and spend another 15+ minutes sailing back to port for a fleet that gives me 500 XP. There is no practical use to the port quest system unless you have a 2nd/1st rate that can 1v10 smaller ships. I understand this game is supposed to be a grind but it's supposed to be fun while grinding and many people I talk to do not enjoy the length it takes to finding AI that suits their needs. Would it be possible to revert to the old mission system where you can pick either solo or fleet missions? 1
Slim McSauce Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 (edited) Missions definitely need work. The kill requirements are ridiculous and the reward is very random, and not worth it. 600 doubloons and 1 missions chest is not good compensation for killing sinking 15 5th rates when I can farm traders and make thousands of dbloons an hour. Also no ship XP for capture? What was the battle for then? Repairs not being dropped also discouraging. Edited January 9, 2019 by Slim McSauce 3
Salty Sails Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 There are so many ow fleets, you don’t need to hide in mission. The rewards are not worth it atm, but this will be changed till final game. Till today, i finished only 2 of my 10 missions. All in pvp. A mission should not be the main target, it’s more a boni for doing something in open world.
Custard Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 Hated it to start with but it has grown on me but I am not new I still believe for a new player it is way too difficult to find low level battles that are doable
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 Most skip the tutorial or is it just my perception ? In any case an extra layer of missions should be introduced - Midshipman&SecondLieutenant specific and ONLY for these ranks where they must capture traders. Given the nature of AI traders is to run the newcomers will have time to train handling and gunnery. Other than that, sail the OW.

The entire mission system is flawed in so many ways you need to start asking global if they think PvE is balanced or even fun. It is a dread to PvE efficiently as someone who has been max rank twice. It is simply not fun for a player to have to go out in OW far from your capital because to my knowledge less enemy AI spawn near your captured ports. Port quests should give you way more options on what you want to do such as the old 4th rate vs 4th rate or 4th rate vs 2 5th rates because look at my choices. I have two missions I can pick and one of them is not even possible without repairs/a decent PvE ship. So my main complaint is the missions should give you more options to pick from.
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 You are pointing 4th rates. I was pointing new players - that's 7th and 6th rates. That alone is a world difference. And engaging AI traders is good mission and income grounds for new players, not flag captains commanding 4th and 3rd rates. Regarding more advanced Missions, you have a point that the extremes of reward is too wide.

No idea how computer game development is made. But i know it is the norm in other areas to test systems before production implementation.
Slim McSauce Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 (edited) Seems like nothing is even, everything either lops to one side or the other from battles to economy to ships. It's a very strange type of development, and you see it almost everywhere in NA. Edited January 10, 2019 by Slim McSauce

PvE used to be a big part in the economy and now a lot of books/refits/ships are inflated due to the low rewards resulting in new/average players not being able to take part in port battles/pvp without worrying about replacing their stuff in a reasonable time.
