AngryPanCake Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 (edited) Trying to have an idea on how much time people are putting into this game and figure out later what they can accomplish in that amount of time. Thank you. PS: only include the time you actually actively play, not the long distance AFK'ing. Edited December 5, 2018 by AngryPanCake

greybuscat Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 This poll doesn't really have the choices I need. I can go days or weeks at a time without playing, at all, but can easily put in 6+ hour sessions when I do play. Sometimes it's 2 sessions in a week, but totaling ten to twelve hours. 5

James Cornelius Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 The problem is that to be successful in this game you need to put in kind of time that @Anolytic has done. Most of us don't have that kind of time available, and the way that the game has been taken in the last 12 months or so is very punishing to the sort of "middle of the road" players who want to participate in big battles, epic patrols, etc but can't devote the time. PVP has become a function of having to have the right people and right ships, and the very casual PVE has gotten a few bones to pick in finding lone ships to fight, etc. There's not so much in between. 1

Should we differentiate between long distance sailing and long distance AFK? Most of the time I'm sailing, the the rest of the time I'm in port, but when I'm in port I'm using other applications. Do we count other applications in port as AFK port time? Edited December 6, 2018 by Macjimm
William Death Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 In the past? 2-5 hours per day, almost every evening. Now, post-patch 27? Ehh...if I bother to log in, maybe 1-3 hours a few nights in a week. Hopefully some stuff improves and NA re-gains some of the luster for me again...but this isn't the thread to discuss that... So, +1 on the "too much" category LOL. No, I don't make a habit of letting the game idle on the login screen or anything like that. Sadly, this is time when I'm logged into a character. Granted, a decent chunk is sitting in port waiting on PB fleets or AFK sailing but still....thats a lot of gametime. Also, a thank you to @Wraith for his continued support of my PvP endeavors. If he's at his computer I can count on him to log in and bring the rescue squad when I bite off more than I can chew.

Nah, with a clan and following all the metas you can be a beast in under 500 hours. Some of our best players last year had only been in the game for 2-3 months.
Slim McSauce Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 (edited) You need a lot of the right mods and ships to be good. A fir/fir surprise isn't going to win out against a teak/fir with the same speed, which is possible with mods and books and very worth it as long as you play with some sense, you'll be a lot less likely to get caught and be able to run from 90% of battles you find youself in with little worry. Having that advantage definitely makes a player better. Edited December 6, 2018 by Slim McSauce

Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Post Patch 27 way more than before. Roughly 3 in a system of day in day out with a now and then weekend streak of two or more sessions per day. 1

Same for me, but all is relative and I don't have time to play as much as I'd like. After the return to 2 min timers I've ditched the gank-zone and done proper OW hunting. 2
Pinguins17 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 I've started playing again this weekend and have been playing for 1-2 hrs a day since. Before that, until more than a year ago, I used to play this game way too much... 1
Ronald Speirs Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 maybe an hour or 2 when ever i feel like doing a battle, game is still pretty average, lacks a good economy to make the game more enjoyable, still prefer playing POTBS over this, the combat is the only thing good in this game atm

AngryPanCake Posted December 6, 2018 Author Posted December 6, 2018 What do you guys consider as "Casual" players? 1-2 hours a day or less on average?
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 1 hour ago, AngryPanCake said: What do you guys consider as "Casual" players? 1-2 hours a day or less on average? Irregular schedules. No fixed days / sessions.

If you play every day you are NOT casual. People have busy lives and to dedicate more than 2 hours every day, for years, to any pastime is much more than casual. Edited December 6, 2018 by Macjimm

HachiRoku Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 (edited) guys, im 28 years old. That makes me 250000 hours old. I have played naval action for 4000 hours. I have done the maths. This means I have played naval action for 1.6% of my life. Please tell me I am wrong. OMG. That would be around 2.5% of my life being awake. This is scary to be honest. HachiRoku Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Fun Fact: @Otto Kohl girlfriend started to cry when she saw he had 2000 hours on his account. The best part is she has no idea about his 5 alts. 3
