I mostly play on pvp server where there is an abundance of lone ai ships of all kind. I jumped on pve to check it out and sailed from kpr to mortimer to northern cuban spanish coast and in all that time saw two lone ai 3rd rates, 2 ai trader 6th rates and a couple of large 1st rate fleets. That is a good amt of sailing, where are you supposed to find enemies on pve? No love by devs for pve? :) Same trip on pvp would yield dozens of potential encounters. Just wondering why the imbalance.

Yeah that sucks.  :( Might've just been a coincidence though, they're out there, although not so much in the really big fleets as mentioned in another thread.  Is it intentional?  In the past AI presence has been the same on both servers, wondering now if Patch 27 changed all that.

NPC's now travel between ports of the same flag. You traveled between areas of three different flags.

I sailed to pirate and Spanish capital area for that purpose. Did finally see a lone Spanish Renny by Bahia Honda but that was the only one. Still, there is significantly less ai targets over all in pve as far as I can tell.

There's definitely not an abundance of  ai fleets to find, maybe around the area where you sail. Sometimes you'll get lucky and a few will show up in one place, but you pretty much have to suicide sail into the heart of enemy ports to find any good amount of enemy ai ships to get any decent amount of pve battles. War server should just be called gank server instead. At least in Peace you can just set up a port in any free port and hunt without worrying about a fleet of 10 ships ready to gank you.

There is a lot of lone ai 5th rates all over the map. I dont look for ai fleets, the req Im using wouldnt do well against fleets, lol. I look for single 5th or 6th rates and they are everywhere.

It's very spotty.  I mostly see 5th rates in fleets - sometimes very large fleets - but then there have been some spots where suddenly there were a few loners that hadn't been there before.  It can take hours of sailing to find one or two.

Abundance would mean you can find them easily, everywhere. There are plenty of areas when you can sail for 30 minutes or more and not see anything, much less something you can actually engage in the now forcibly most popular 5th rate class. If you are alone you're going to have a hard time finding good targets, the only way I'm seeing new players progress is through the kindness of some more advanced players, giving them a hand. Otherwise they'd be stuck doing missions all day, which defeats the purpose of an open world game.

1540 bots for our online numbers is more than enough.

We do not like handholding a player and feeding him with a spoon.  Due to the size of the world they cant be everywhere? They sail from port to port and thus they are spread. Some areas are more interesting as they create natural chokepoints where lots of ships/fleets meet. - This could be the place where you can find them easily - in that hunting place.

Abundance in our game means you have to find a hunting spot.
Find a hunting spot, then there is an abundance.

ps there could be bugs. but our bot live travel map shows there are 1540 bots in places where they should be sailing!

Right. I circled the whole Caribbean and must have run into quite a few hunting spots.

In the real life you couldn't see a ship for months. Travel and find you resources ..

AI is plenty enough to find on PvE. No worries.

Just some people want to have the feeling of sailing in a bathtub instead of a wide ocean and experience 'rush hour' traffic jams in ships. Fortunately, we don't have such. And: if people would not have to search for ships occasionally, they just would hit on this forum complaining about "how boring everything " is, in the words of admin, to "be fed with a spoon". Abundance spoils.

I agree there is enough in some areas. But my point was more toward if more AI fleet/ships would be added as the player base grows? I enjoy pvp but the whole, you either are open to pvp every second you're online or you do no pvp at all. Seems too extreme. It's a little off topic but it relates to 'hunting grounds' which usually means pvp.

This is a game not real life.  I doubt the game will keep many players if it takes an 1 hour to find a 20 minute battle while sailing around.

Yeah , your right but you can't fill the map with bots just to make you dream of doubloons or resources or books .

Hmm well it's not about any of those. More about time spent online being actually fun over sailing in an empty ocean.

I don't mind searching for something, which is part of why I like the BIG map.  I just want to feel like I'm eventually going to find "it".  Ho, is that sails on the horizon!?!  Crap, it's an Essex with 6 mediums in fleet - useless.  (leaves room for a couple minutes to make another cup of tea)

1540 bots divide by 7 ships classes, given that a 7th rate wouldn’t attack a 1st rate,

divided by fleets/single, that is a player/s ability to attack equivalent sized fleet, like 24 vs 1…,

divided by map size, given that a player on the far east isn’t going to be in contact with an NPC on the far west side,

divided by NPCs already snatch by another player,

divided by NPCs of the same nation,

divided by weather event or night sight range limit,

divided by deep and shallow water limitations,

divided by NPCs sailing through islands,

and then, finally, divided by chance encounter,

how many?

Well at least the ocean centers are empty!

My girlfriend actually loves this game over any other I play, on that ground alone. I can sail around or an hour and just “chill”. If I find something it’s game time. Otherwise I’m just causally sailing shooting the shit and taking in the scenery. Maybe I’m crazy. But while yes I think more population would be good, I don’t think over population would be good.

Well the difference there is you can choose to ignore them if you see them and just want to chill and enjoy the scenery. It's not the same for people that are looking for the AI fleets/ships for battles, they don't get the same choice. And as @BuckleUpBones pointed out the centers of oceans away from coasts are always empty, which is weird considering they are the most direct route between a lot of areas. Why are AI fleets near only coasts, I wonder if they are just afraid of the open sea? 🤷‍♀️
