Hi everyone! I'm planning to buy Naval Action but I have questions that need to be answered first. My questions, in PvE server can I play solo without other players interrupting my experience? Also is it possible to upgrade my ship, trade (buy/sell stuff), visit ports, and attack enemy ships in PvE server?

I appreciate any information you can provide. Cheers!

Hi Angus thanks a lot for the reply. I forgot to ask this before, is it possible to play offline in this game? I live in Southeast Asia and I'm afraid I can't play it due to the high pings.

I wouldn't buy until UI patch goes live. That's just me.

Cause somehow it matters..real helpful slim.

first impressions are very important Flinch! You of all people should know this.

Besides I'm not saying he has to, I'm saying that's what I would do considering the scope of the patch and how much is going to radically change.

What you will attack on PvE server are NPC ships. Depending on their size and numbers, that is pretty challenging enough for a new player.

Like in real life, you have to evaluate your chances before initiating combat. And once in, you may always try to break off and retreat if it does not go well.

Solo/single ship “Combat Missions” throughout all captain ranks, also feet missions and Open World (OW) NPCs raiding, including raiding/attacking OW NPC fleets with 1 or 2 ships assigned to your own battle group.

As solo you should reach highest captain rank, Real Admiral, in about of 300+ gameplay hours, so plenty of content for your dosh.

SimMcSauce has a point but alas a small one! could still go for it regardless.

Or come to the PvP and we can get you set up. It has a much higher population.

And yes OP, you can play without Interruption!

No, not with this version of the game. I don't think ping matters much on PvE.

I absolutely prefer to do my PvE on the PvP server because the RvR battles you can only get on the PvP servers are incredible fun. Sailing in a team, against another team. It's fantastic and is, in my opinion, why a project like this has been made. The Devs prioritize PvP over PvE so you're more likely to find players to sail with, there is actual competition for resources, there are actual reasons to spend your resources to the benefit of other players in your nation, and even though you might not outright like PvP; sailing with players that are inherently better, because of the AI limitations as opposed to fighting other people, will make you a better captain.

This game, and the PvP server more-so, is in need of all the players it can get. I have argued before that PvE has an important role to play in RvR agendas. We need people to move goods, to grind for marks/knowledge/upgrades/etc, to craft ships for the war effort, and so on.

This is me trying to convince you start on the PvP server. I would pick the server with about 100 players at its worst to nearly 500 at its peak; as opposed to (what I think is) 40 or so players at its peak on the PvE server simply because I prefer to sail with other players and the content here is just better, imho. You can't transfer anything between the servers so if you do decide to switch later on you will have to start over. Anything you can do in the PvE server can be done on the PvP server, but at least here it will have a purpose that benefits the nation. There is no nation building on the PvE server. No capturing ports, nothing to really put your resources to work for you. Please let me know if you do come to the server, and you are a North American/evening player, I'd be happy to help you get established with whatever you need. And I know that you could get the same offer from just about any nation, but evening France is arguably the best RvR force on the server, at that time.

I would strongly recommend you start out on the PVE server at least to get your feet wet (pun intended).  You will learn all the basics there.  I did it for about a week and then felt I could have more fun on PVP and switched.  The PVP server can be quite cutthroat and you will lose a lot of ships, but it is much more exiting.  As Galt mentioned, there is plenty of help there if you hook up with the right bunch.  You can have characters on both though.  There is also a test bed server that might be fun but it is PVP ( I sunk a bunch of Yanks there, lol).

Do PVE for a week and get your basics.  Maybe make a character on PVP and dip your toe in.  Then decide what is right for you.  I would hate for you to go straight into PVP, get slaughtered a few times and quit.  We are heartless brutes there.

I started on PvE and I would recommend that.  It's easier to learn the basic mechanics, particularly if you don't have a sense of what sort of game play you actually like.

I'm primarily an econ guy.  I moved to the Caribbean server back about March.  Found it much more interesting, even for what I like to do.  On PvE most of the player-to-player econ is limited to the immediate vicinity of the national capitals.

But your game play is definitely going to get interrupted.

Other players cannot attack you but they can interact with you (chatting, fighting together with you vs NPCs).

Nope. The servers are in EU, so ping will be high for you. Its not the end of the world since this game is rather slow and you dont need superfast reactions, but it will ofc still be noticable and feel a bit clunky. Your best bet would be to try it and if its too bad return it (you can play up to 2 hours and get money back from steam).

Note that there is a daily server downtime for like 1 hour which will probably be in your primetime (its at around 12 CEST).

To elaborate on “Jon Snow lets go to my Cave” post, I’m in Oceania zone and my ping hovers around 300+ and I don’t have any problems with “Combat Missions”.

FYI, with “Combat Missions” players can’t join your battle instance, unless you invite/group up, but you or any player can join OW battles, this is where ping can become an issue with too many players.

I won't advise to go to PvP server immediately. Lots of sharks waiting for unexperienced new players as their "fodder" (or when I call it, like they do, "sealclubbing" or "noob farming" it is all basically the same). Not all like to be ruined all over again after having put the few money they have into a new ship and then getting ganked. Subsequent rage-quitting is the major problem in NA (besides alts). In better cases they land on PvE, in worse cases you never see them again...

Human interaction is possible on PvE meanwhile, especially in larger nations like British or 'Pirates', there you team up for fighting AI fleets together, if you want that.

I would avoid going Brit if you go to the PVE server.  Its seems that the majority of AI are also Brit and you cant attack them.  Go Pirate.  It's nicely centred and gives you plenty of AI.

If you are planning on buying the game just to play PvE, you need to keep in mind that the PvE server is supposed to be temporary. Last big discussion about it was that it will remain open for 18 more months or so (that was about 6 months or so ago...I think).

Plus, the main focus of the current development is centered around PvP server and game play, which seems to be moving along at a decent pace lately. The new UI that is being tested is very good looking.

I hope you join us and enjoy this fantastic game.

PS: I'm a PvE player myself.

Over 3k hours so far and yes sometimes seems like a long sail and no action but then can do missions, AI fleets, trade etc to keep self busy.

* Come with attitude that ships get sunk, all ships end up that way eventually :).

* Be prepared (especially at first) to be given a good beating, but as you go on things get better and you learn from mistakes (I think i'm ok but not anywhere near best player).

* If you can, ask people who have beaten you how did they do this etc, many will take time to tell you how they beat you.

* Game is still in test phase so things can/will change, some which you like others which perhaps you don't. Some things change back to how they were before on updates, evolve with it.

* PvE server is a good place to learn basics, manual sailing watch a youtube vid are a few will help greatly.

* Learn from other players in a clan, don't be afraid to ask on forum about things (ship builds etc)

* Lastly have fun and don't take in fight insults to seriously (some guys get ultra salty lol).

Hope my comments help in some way :)
