Number of enemy crew not visible

Why do we know the amount of crew of the enemy ship in combat? During a boarding I see it logical, but ships that are a thousand meters or more away should not know if a ship carries the normal crew or if it is very cramped with hammocks etc. What do you think? Greetings. º7

The same reason why we have HP bar and cannons loaded counter... the graphics are not good enough to tell us the status of the enemy ship alone.
