I was going to do the 5th rate kill mission and than notice it's kill a 4th rate?  Really you want some one to kill a 4th rate with a 5th rate? I mean it can be done but not by most normal casuals.  I'll do the missions once the servers back up but I figured if I"m doing a 5th rate missions I would be killing another 5th rate. I think it's the same for the 6th rate, kill a 5th rate.   Lucly I have a herc cause I'll just stern camp the crap out of that 4th rate and hope I don't die.

The other missions hunters where you have a number of ships of a rate to kill look like nice little PvE missions I assume PvPand PvE count for these so folks would want to make sure they have them set before say a shallow water PB or going into the Shallow water patrol zones they would want the 6/7th rate missions on there char for sure.  IS there a way to make it so you can have more than 5 of these missions at one time?  I should be able to claim all missions at once since I don't just sail 6/7th rates or 4th rates or what ever. I play with all size of ships.  I think bumping it up to 10 would be good.  Keep the hostiltiy missions at 3 as always.  When will we see the econ missions?

It's a PVE mission?  Depends on the ships involved?  I've been doing AI Constitutions with Diana because fighting other 5th rates in Diana gives such low XP.  It takes some judicious chaining and repairs, but at least the Constitution is a big target to shoot at.  ;)

You have a Diana on testbed?   We start with a Frigate and Suprise and only 280 crew.   Yes the Frigate could prob take on a 4th rate, but it could be a pain.  I would prob more than likely use the Herc (you get your DLC content) and start camp it.  I haven't even loaded guns on the frigate yet cause got to make a little money to buy such and test other things.  

 

Though since your speaking of Diana I take it your not even on Testserver?

OK, I was just commenting about "kill a 4th Rate with a 5th Rate" in general.  So, I guess your concern is due to the limited types of 5th Rates available on the Test Server to do the missions with?

I seen that on some others screens.  I got to 4th rate for my same mission and the kill a 6th eater tells me to kill a 5th rate.  I’ll screen shot it in the morning when I get home.

i might test them on the way to the mission and see if it does the same for me.

  • I did a "Kill" mission with a friend we both had one active for the same ship rate. We joined as grp but only 1 gets rewarded for the mission even the mission got more difficult

Okay, did two missions:

- Kill Mission 7th Rate / 4 stars - kill 6th rate

Was facing a Niagara with the basic cutter, absolutely no slots, nothing... and was that a challenging combat ! Given the difficulty rating of 4 stars I think it was on spot. Rewards were seemingly adequate, no chests but a nice pay in doubloons.

- Kill Mission 5th Rate / 4 stars also - kill 2x 5th rate

We went as a group and again was hell fun, very challenging ( each one got 2x 5th rates as the original mission implies and is nice that the entire group obeys the same rules ).

The rewards were maybe over the top though, with two chests, gold and silver and some nice amount of doubloons.

I say this because even if it is a 1v2 it is still AI.

Hunt Missions and Search and Destroy are exactly the same.

I would expect one of them to be PvP specific.

are you sure it was not a hunt mission

kill missions only complete if you kill a ship in a designated instance.

Missions seem to be working well. What i dont understand: Whats the difference between Hunt and S&D? They share the same description. I did a Hunt mission and sank 9x 6th rate, is S&D PvP only?

Another thing: When opening chests, could we have a popup with its containments? I already have multiple things in warehouse and wasnt sure what was actually in it.

The new mission system is a big step forward from the previous format.

It delivers variety in target types - fixed position, or sailing out and search for enemy ship - and difficulty and challenge - that is what the amount of stars mean.

I would expect this format to be improved with story missions, such as acting a Aubrey having to hunt a enemy frigate in some far side of the world region and not just anywhere.

Also, if I may ( being my first post and not a lurker anymore ), I would suggest a small add on to each mission description. Like a small storyline type text, maybe even being dynamic - %playername% - included in the text so I could see my own name in the mission description.

Other than that, a way to access the Journal while sailing in fast travel mode is essential.

yes. all missions and events (with the exception of pvp missions or conquest) will be available both for pve and pvp servers.
PVP duel tournament (once done) and other lobby based PVP events will be available for both servers. 

We decided to speed up localization so pvp duels will only be deployed after basic localization is finished.

Dont forget only you (because you started the mission) got the chests. The others just got cash and xp

This is superb news.

I understand many players wish to experience the age of sail that the game offers without being in a competitive environment all the time but they won't mind the frigate on frigate combat against a friend in the weekend.

Many thanks to the team for thinking about this and making it happen.

The one mission I did was just a simple 6th rate kill mission, fighting a lynx in my basic cutter, the reward was 2 dubloons and a silver chest. Nornally I'd groan about crap 7th rate missions - but this was worth it.

I am actually happy that some missions are better than others, it brings variety as well as choice.

Do you sail and only take the good missions, or do you do all the missions in one port regardless of reward?

That being said, i personally believe the "harder" missions that have a greater reward should be closer to enemy ports or freetowns, but they should still have a chance to spawn anywhere.

I then hit an ai fleet which had a santa cecillia, was fun. I got 200,000 reals and then extracting some resources I thought they were really expensive to extract even with increased real reward on testbed, but that's another story. (212 Reals for each hemp).

Current distribution for kill missions

Capitals - easy missions 7-6th rates 
Towns - easy medium missions 5-3rd rates
County capitals medium missions 4-1st rates
Free towns - hard missions 3-1st rates
Shallow water ports same distribution of complexity but always for 6-7th rates

But we plan to widen the range a bit. 

OW Hunts and searches are always 1 star because complexity cant be determined as player decides on time he wants to spend on hunts.

Complexity could be distance from port of origin, type of targets and which rate to be used, correct ? Becomes the captain choice to decide lower complexity or higher, and maybe do the cruise sail to do the mission in several play days ?
