The Herc is the only ship I've used in boarding that doesn't have "Fire Deck Guns" active.

I've tried different things before boarding (deactivate gunnery, or sail to free up crew) to see if the instruction will become  "live" during boarding, but nothing seems to do it.

Any suggestions?

Cheers.

I asked the very same question.  Simple answer, Herc is 3 decks.  No deck guns from 3 decks to 1 deck.  I don't know why....

Board an Indiaman.  You'll have deck guns

If boarding ships are one low and one very high (2+ decks difference) fire deck guns command is locked.

Hercules is technically a 3 decker (yes, it is weird) as (lol) a bellona. So in boarding vs. a requin, an LGV, a brig, there a 2 decks difference = no fire deck guns (for both).

On the other hand, being, for above reason, "higher", buffs all your values and nerfs enemy's ones.

Deck guns do not work if deck difference is too high.
if you attack one decked ship the guns on the top deck do not work (cant aim that low). Hercules has a technically 3 decks. There is another ship like this - Prince.

Aye.

Couldnt better to add a simple "height" value based on real height to all ships influencing boarding combat in place of using deck count that leads to an Hercules considered higher than a Trinco, or an LGV lower than a Prince?
