Liq Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 No, this thread is not about complaining about the RoE of the patrol zones. Instead, I had the following idea: Let players ingame vote for the next patrol zone area (the following day) and the ship rate allowed. E.g. Vote for a patrol zone, for example hispanola channel. Then vote for the allowed ship rate (1st - 7th rates) Benefit: more variety Con: dev time 2
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 La Tortue area should be a permanent Patrol Zone. Actually... all free ports should be permanent Patrol Zones. No need for votes if it would be this way... 😀 1
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 I am sure of that - a lot of things is not the same as a lot of good things.
Sir Loorkon Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 The only thing that needs to be changed is the ganking in patrol zones. Players should only be allowed to join the lowBR side of a fight. If we would have PvP ranks instead of or in addition to the current PvE ranks, we could operate with them as a factor to change the BR, too. The suggested votingsystem seems to be to complicated and the changing areas are fine as they are. 3
Tiedemann Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 I think we should avoid having multiple zones open at the same time, but one for each free port could be cool.. I would also like to see a zone reserved for 4.rates and up. Maybe exclude 1. rates? Reserving a patrol zone for just one line ship rating would be to limiting imo and I fear the result would be an empty Patrol zone. Sorry for dragging this in: But as long as ROE does not change, I'm not dedicating an outpost to any patrol zone. And if we in the future would get less outpost slots (admin posted this), then I do not see the the future for patrol zones at all. Maybe the current patrol zones where just added to test the reward system and how much it would be exploited. I don't know.. 🙁

Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Nothing to add. Not uncommon in EA games for devs to code some system and then implement something to see the code working ( they reserve it for a bigger scenario idea ) in a contained scale.

A simplier version, which wouldn't involve dev's time, would be to look at popularity of all patrol areas and remove those which are unpopular. Maybe it's just me, but I rarely see anything happening in Tumbado or Aves. Another great change would be to inform about activity in patrol areas - eg. clerk could say that "A new activity was reported in patrol area" any time someone starts a battle with AI. My problem is that I can go to patrol area and don't find anyone. Once I find a first player and sink him/myself, people already know something is happening there and will eventually come. Myself when I'm choosing where to go, if there are no reports of sank enemies in patrol, I don't go there - even though there can be some group waiting there. 1
speijk Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 (edited) 1 thing far from having class discrimination it should be increasing the mount of class types. as a pure 5th rate captain by choice. i like the freedom of moving. but the people in this game discriminate if u dont line ships. i would suggest for every 1 or 2nd rate needa frigate escort. a fleet or line ships where always escorted. Angus MacDuff Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Voting is bad. Someone always loses, and often, the same people will lose all the time. Control would be given to a select majority and multiple playing styles would suffer. Fix the ROE and its fine as is. In fact, multiple patrol zones would solve this. A shallow zone and a 5th rate zone one day....Shallow and all rates the next. (yes, I like the shallows) 1

In truth it will kill the variety it already has. Every Patrol Zone is used in rotation. Never the same one two days in a row. You start having people vote and you will see the same Patrol zones day after day. I was in the patrol zone last night in a Navy Brig that after putting cannons and repairs on it I spent about 80K. I first tagged a AI trader Brig and a friend in a Le Requin joined me. I got 3.3K damage from that. On my way to sell the gold that was in the gold we got tagged by 6 Danes in Hercules. We had no chance. This is the definition of being ganked. WE DIDN’T CARE!!!! We had a great time and laughed our way through the fight. Fighting all those Hercules I got another 4K damage. I would have got more but I was in reload shock so much. They sank my 80K Navy Brig and my friends 50K Le Requin. We both received 3 PvP marks worth 450K on the market. Not bad for 30 minutes of playing and having fun. The Patrol Zones are definitely broken and could easily be fixed by not allowing group entry into combats and then setting a limit on how much one side can out number another. Fix the Patrol Zones and they would be used a lot more by Veterans and newbs alike. I continue to learn to PvP by going to the Patrol Zone and if fixed, I am sure that a lot more rookies would go there to learn also. Why? I get rewards by how well I did in combat, not by Winning the combat. The more effort I put into it the better my reward. Plus there is a real chance that I will sink another player and get the PvP marks for that. 4
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 What IF... ... all the OW was a patrol zone ?

If you were rewarded for PvP anywhere in OW as you are in the Patrol Zone it would make people less mad about being butchered, and some people would go looking for a fight just to learn. 2

I think that is fair just aslong as Traders Marks are introduced for those who trade and spend just as much time sailing and then face increased chance of being attacked as traders will be easy targets.
