Just wanted to put this out there. I have recently been charged and punished for PVP farming. I am guilty for sure.

But I would like to say that although I am a member of ROVER I do not represent them in this regard. I am new to the clan and I have not sailed with any of the members yet. I have had little interaction with any of them outside of Clan chat. I don't know any of them very well although I respect each one of them and feel it necessary to let everyone know that as far as I know PVP farming is NOT a practice of the ROVER clan.

my clan members have not logged on yet this morning so don't know how they're going to deal with me. Whatever they decide to do I respect.

That being said, I do have a question as a tester of this game. When game is finally released who will be policing the PVP Mark system? If it will go unpoliced then the system is broken and must be fixed.

Furthermore in my own defense, my schedule doesn't permit me to commit to long-term sailing with people. Therefore I have not wanted to sail with someone and suddenly have to leave and leave them hanging. So that makes me a solo player. I have stated on this form before that this game really isn't geared towards solo players. That's fine and I know that that is not going to change. But if you're not in a clan and you're completely self-taught in the game you do need a leg up. For me it was either start farming so that I didn't get sunk each and every single time I went out or quit the game. I joined a clan in hopes to be able to sail with people but it never has worked out. I have recently found a ship that allows me to better play as a solo player (LGV refit). I'm not a huge fan of the ship but it allows me a little more freedom in the solo sea. So judge me however you see fit but the same record that shows me guilty of farming will easily show that farming has never given me an advantage to sink anyone!

I don't mean to be Captain Obvious, but try to get your marks in the patrol zone. You don't have to be a superstar to get some damage done. Cap a ship, buy a ship or craft one. Go to the zone to die for at least 3 marks. You can hit bots too if you have little time.

If you would have invested more time into sailing and less time into farming your alt, this wouldn't have happened.

I have over 5000 in this game and have played for over two and a half years. So I do have time invested.

PS

if even one half of that time had been spent alt farming there would have been no need to farm anymore

Forgive my ignorance please, but what is meant by farming? Does that mean that a person has two accounts, plays them at the same time so that you can just sink yourself and therefore get the PvP marks? Or having a friend in another Nation and just allowing Each other to sink ships so you both get the PvP marks?

Thank you for that suggestion. I will do that in the future I have both the DLC so it will be basically freee

Expect to be super-ganked, it will happen. Good fights happen too, some people do have the balls or the crazy to go in alone.

And others have no choice but to sail alone

No, listen to me: "You have the BALLS to sail alone!". Not everyone dares, but you do...

In the very same area where I saw you farming is one of the easiest places to accrue PvP marks.  It just takes a little bit of effort and the willingness to lose ships.  As a former US player you should know the gaps we’ll enough.

If I solo PvP I take a herc or requin so I can jump players in the safe zone or gank in their missions and most importantly get out fast.  Go out and solo a bit in something that can go 14knts.

Most importantly, ditch the fleet ships.  They are a crutch and will not make you a better pvper.  Every time I see you on the water you have 2 ships in fleet.  Going out in a larger group will also not make you a better pvper either.

I hate the requin and I'm not a fan of the herc. LGV refit does go 14 knts

Fleets cover my Escape when I get jumped by three or more people. And in the refit I can jump into any port. If you're selling alone you must only fight one other ship not three to five. So you have to be able to pick your fights

I suppose fleet ships feel useful or fun for some. I simply can't even consider them as I can't compromise on the fighting perks.

If you spent 2500 hours alt farming, you would be the most intense farmer in history.

You can get PvP marks sailing alone. Best use some cheap ships first to learn. If you sink, just take another one out. That's how best players in this game learned. Once you sink over 1000 times, you know 1000 ways of how to sink an enemy.

First off: Cudous to you for coming out and hone up to the mistake. More players (Port de Paix from the last wipe comes to mind) should be so honest.

Secondly: Farming doesn't give you an advantage in PvP, on the contrary since the opponent doesn't fight back. You were after the books.

Thirdly: I believe (and it's just my belief) that some of the farming is due to the broken PvP, where solohunting is almost impossible (unless you use the Le Requin which would never realistically be able to sail the carribean - for reasons why I defer you to the meteorological institute near you along with the nearest yacht-club). As far as I'm concerned PvP marks should be removed untill a time where the PvP issues are adressed.

Definately Odin and Thor themselves had to intervene first hand to make viking longships crossing northern Atlantic (well known as a gale-free sea).

As dutch shipbuilders should be totally drunk creating the bermuda rigging... Out of lateen one.

Not everybody makes it across.  They used their longships because they didn't know better.  They weren't stupid enough to keep doing it when the built more suitable ships

Agree. The mark system is terribly broken (that doesn't give justification for all farming but rather my opinion.) still have not heard an explanation for what will happen when the game is released in as far as how to police this broken system.

It's not the rigging it's the durability of the hull.

I know mate.

I simply hate the one way realism/historical argument.

Would be Requin a crappy ship (or really a niche one, like let's say the privateer) nobody would start chatting about her seaworthiness.

Realism argument got called by demasters ("mast fell in battle) usually without a clue about why and due to which damage or shock masts fell.

But it is not called against hull hugging or sterncamping.

We got the "Requin too fast upwind" argument... But nobody said that square rigged barely went at beam and tacked in a quarter of an hour...

We got the Requin should be frailer argument... But not a word against angling.

What's missing is intellectual honesty.

As long as there is a marks system that has exclusive items folks will abuse it.  I am not a fan of any marks tbh.

AI fleet will not teach you how to escape or how to solo players.  They are a crutch that will slow you down on the OW.  Ditch them if you want to get better.  Or don’t.  Im not the one who got caught farming 8 pvp marks.

Majority of my kills comes from solo pvp action.  As a solo guy you will never top the leaderboards unless you’ve been extremely fortunate, but I do alright with close to 700 marks, lodesman and combat carps books.  I gave up caring about how many I get pet kill a long time ago and just enjoy the hunt/chase.  You need to be smart, pick your battles and your escapes. Sometimes you get caught.  2 weeks ago I lose my pre DLC herc with copper and naval clock and a pretty good pirate frigate.  I lose requins all the time from getting just a little too bold.  Majority of the pleasure I get from solo pvp these days is just how much can I get away with in a battle.  Sometimes you get caught.  The beauty of the DLC ships is you can just stamp out another and get back on the water.  I absolutely love being able to just say hello kitty it and go after targets id be a little too wary to hit in a non DLC ship.

Anorher good area is key west to Havana.  Stop at our gift shop while you’re over that way.

If you want to get better I would suggest listening to some of the tips on here.  Or get better at alt farming.

I hate the Xebec because im a purist and a fan of the period/area.  xebecs were not common in the Caribbean and I hate to see them everywhere now.  Yes, I get that other things were not common (the Russians?), but I understand marketing.  We didn't need Xebecs and I think of them as coastal (Mediterranean) short range raiders.

Preferances are fair. I hate frigates going after first rates. And I consider it original sin of NA.

Like mast sniping.

Add gale events (sailing and saving your ship inside a gale) and supplies issues... And magically Requin and privateers will be back costal raiders.

A person losing a (and the precious precious Gollum precious mods) is hard on a clan members but devastating for the solo Hunter. The clan guy has other people (sometimes people that are under him in the clan that he can skim off of) to rely on.

Fleet ships have kept me alive more times than I can count. If you Fleet fir renos you can do 30 plus open world

Add patrol zone ROE and you've solved NA
