PG Monkey Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 (edited) Would be nice if we could use stern guns on the privateer, even 4 lb cannons the gun ports are already on the model Edited August 13, 2018 by PG Monkey add pic 12
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 Would place her in her rightful spot, definitely. 1
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 Pickle show nominal 12 guns in her listings. I would guess 2 guns were moved from the broadsides to the stern ports. I would give the Pickle, 5 guns a side, 2 on the stern. Privatter as PG points out, 2 aditional guns. Not sure if they get in the way of the tiller 3

The Privateer however, that would fit giving it stern guns. 3

OP compared to what? The ships aren't supposed to be equal, and they will always have different BR accordingly. Sailing profile, manouverability, woods, mods - there are so many other variables. It would be nice to see a more variety out there on the seas, but not many people want to build and sail something without chasers when they could have them on another ship. I think you did missunderstand me, i think the variation we have now is pretty solid (at least 5th rates frigs). 1

My thinking was "natural" - Cutter----> Pickle-----> Privateer but i'm fine with the present situation. The ships without bow gun ports have control and that is worth statues of gold.

The cutter is free, the lynx is fast upwind, and the pickle has a good overall sailing profile. The Privateer on the other hand, can use bigger carros and has just a few more crew. That doesn't seem to be enough to make people use it especially since 7th rates should bring cannons to pvp with. So I think giving stern guns to the Privateer makes the most sense especially since it is supposed to be the best at fighting.
EdWatchmaker Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Captains and Admin, I suppose I see why we might not be able to add more guns, but for the ships that obviously have the extra gun ports, let us be able to reassign guns to those ports. It makes sense that was probably what was done. It should not be instantaneous but mimic the time it takes to actually do it. And a cool down period so you can't just bounce them back and forth unrealistically. Just a thought. I really think it's needed because it would have been done in real life this way. Fair sailing all.

Fair sailing all. This is one of those features that's always been on the list but never really any serious push, though I will admit I'm a big proponent of giving the Essex her saddle guns. I think just about any ship can move its guns bow or stern? I don't see why you wouldn't if it's as easy as rolling one back. 1
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 I think the initial propose is not to create whole new system, but to give a decisive variety at the schooner/sloops. Not really to start giving away guns to everything. While the Essex can be discussed has having bow chasers as recorded in one of the cruises a similar situation could be said about the Surprise and 12 pounder guns. If you look to the entire frigate line there's a good variety, each with more or less aficionados but all of them are rather unique in their own way, with or without chasers - no bow gun ports give you auto control. You have a wide spectrum, from cruiser frigates up to heavy frigates, from 26 guns up to 46 guns, all in the same rating. The 7th rates, as someone posted above, need a little retouch and PG offers a nice little add for it. Will it make more people use them ? No idea, they always been a "specialist" ship although the Pickle is definitely a much better option than a Cutter at almost the same cost and should be encouraged. 1
vazco Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Don't break something that works - ship variety is nice. Having or not having stern/bow chasers is part of the variety and makes different ships good for different things. Once you give all ships chasers, game will become unbalanced. We will need 6 more months and a few patches to balance it again - not worth it. On the other hand I'm ok with stern chasers on a Privateer, it's a nice change. Not critical, but nice. 4

If these ships don't get chasers then people will continue not using them, which would seem to demonstrate that they aren't "working" or "balanced".
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Good. Means players have choices. Some might not be as popular as others but they are also viable, maybe not metaboyz toyz, but viable. 1
Licinio Chiavari Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 I vote always to let privateer, lynx to be someway PVP viable. The problem, AGAIN, is Requin+Pirate speedmeta making privateer catchable and privateer too limited crew: good only if ever able to catch a t.brig upwind.

All 5th rates are working and people are using them. Most 6th rates are working as well. I'm ok with sailing all of them. I used Privateer a few times in patrol zones already as well. Don't assume that everyone is like you. 2
Slim McSauce Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 I believe it's possible because the mortar perk lets you shoot 2x more without needing to physically add more cannons. It could be a perk for every ship to add extra bow guns, or stern guns if the ship has it.

Actually, I'm one of the rare wierdos that has used the gimped 5th rates, just because I have contrarian moments and I don't do solo PVP. Essex only works in a group, so I've only bought a couple as throw-aways when they're dirt cheap in the ship shop. I have a few Belles only because I was in France on Global and generally used only french ships. However, I wouldn't put resources into crafting these handicapped ships when similar ships fully equipped with chasers are available. It doesn't make sense to waste dock space on them versus a more versatile fully outfitted ship. If they were fixed I could consider using them. 10 hours ago, Sir Hethwill the RedDuke said: Good. Well, keep in mind that you always have the "choice" to not mount the available chasers if this kind of "variety" of lacking basic features that excites you. I'm not being snarky - you can really do that if you like. Edited August 14, 2018 by Barbancourt (rownd)
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Exactly That's what I meant. Do not touch variety across all ships. But privateer is not a ship, has only two masts 😎 1
