We're missing one very important refit of ship. That ship is the generic frigate, and that refit is the Navy Frigate Refit.

We have the frigate, we have the pirate frigate, now we just need the Navy Frigate.

Give it a skin, make it extra tanky and fast with exceptional sailing qualities. Give it a load of swivels on top of it's cannon package.

Finally make it cost 100 Combat Marks.

Thoughts? this is a serious post.

Should be DLC, 20 euros !

More ships are good, but after DLC fiasco, I am distant.

you're right, we should start with a pirate Brig first before we move onto anything bigger. (since pirate's more often used brigs than anything)

When was the last time any one said anything, I haven't heard that in the last year and half.  That was all the guys that wanted this to be a complete sailing sim and reason many players got ran off (guys that wanted to remove GPS, and many other things in game).  Majority of those folks have been long gone too.  This is a game not a sailing sim.

This has been brought up many times and I think it would make more since for a Refit than any other ships right now.  Something with maybe a bit more guns or bigger guns and more crew but less cargo space.  Maybe half the crago to make up for the bigger/more guns and crew.  Don't even have to call it a refit just call it the Indiaman Merchant/Explorer Ship.

 

I actually posted to get the P Frigates name changed as it honestly now should be called the Privateer Frigate not pirate.

Generic ships could all use the full range of refit from pirate/privateer to navy and whatever else. You could do a lot with different tiers and trees of generic ships. Maybe these ships can be the ones offered for PVP/combat mark, different tiers offering different preset upgrades. 

Crafted ships you'd be free to put any upgrades you have, and is more benefitial to a player v player environment because the top players aren't amassing loads of the already best selection of ships for most deepwater tasks while ships that aren't ever used because they're boring to sail are left with no redeeming features to them. Which indeed is the brig, frigate, and 3rd rate.

This is an suggestion on it's own, but of course relevant to OP.

I agree, just something else they took away from the pirates....hmmm...no...privateers....no............the black flag nation.

I can see doing some Navy refits versoin of some ships like they have the Navy bring or they could do the Navy Indiaman.  The LVG is actually a troop transport more than a merchant ship.  The Frigate in my view should be the base middle ground of all ships so why not give it a Navy version with the pirate/privateer refit.

Admin told me they won't properly work on pirates until after release I pretty much gave up on the thought of them being something other than just another nation.  They can easlly do so much and keep the pirate nation (more Privateer nation) and than do Outlaws (which have the three nation rules of no home port) and so much more but they refuse to work on that until other things or done.  Hay atleast we got back SOL's so we can fight fairly against other nations?

I think we should be able to get free ships from the navy... What kind of a naval officer buys his own ship, or even worse, makes it from scratch?!

Also, I will not be buying any DLC ships, the 2 already in the game are dumb enough.

Been suggested as baseline OW design. Did not happen.

I think I might know why - player prefers to rank up and sail whatever he wants instead of being chained to a "good captain sails good ship" ; "bad ship sails patrol sloops of war"

But the DLC packs have filled that gap, without discussing merits and ship model development.

Player logins, takes the captain hat, takes ship. Sails.

No worries with anything else.

Im not sure they will deliver proper pirate mechanics unless there is an incentive to do so anyway. DLC maybe?

I would buy it.

That would be hysterical. Imagine the salt?!?  What you can sail is based on your prestige (win/loss %)...  

oh my god would that be amusing.

I always saw myself more as the Admiral of a fleet than one captain that has several fleets.  I would assume each ship has it's own captain and such, but when I'm on board I'm the fleet admiral and is in command.
