Latron Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 It's very troublesome to have players who just joined Poland, Russia, or Prussia start off at Shroud Cay. It's a very active area and not a great starting point for new players who don't fully understand what they're doing. Without communication from their nation they likely won't know where to go or where to avoid, but the biggest problem is when the game gets an influx of new players because with so many cutters in the area some more experienced players decide to go there to get some easy kills. I understand how some people use cutters to transport light materials and thus they become a good target, but when these cutters happen to be new players who just started the game, it could make them want to quit the game and possibly get a refund. In a game with such a low population, driving players away on day 1 is the last thing we need. I think we should change the spawn point for players in each nation to a port that the nation actually owns so long as that nation still own any ports at all. One possible idea is to have the players of a nation vote on a port they own to be the "capital" where all joining players will spawn, and if that port gets captured, then the spawn point could default back to Shroud Cay until another port is selected. It may not be the best idea ever, but if this game is going to keep any sort of decent reputation, then we shouldn't allow new players to get ganked the moment they set sail from the docks for the first time. 2

I doubt mass cutter farming will be an issue as they don't actually give you anything. As for the new player situation, I would like to see a new player starting area that has been talked about in many posts before and perhaps hardcore nations can be a way to just skip that.
vazco Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 I don't think this is a real issue what you're describing, but spawning in a port with the most player outposts would be a quality of life improvement. In Commonwealth sometimes a few times per week we had to escort new players. It would be better if they spawned in the most populated port instead.

I don't think anyone wants to be unable to leave a port because it's being camped by players in superior ships. Players who pick these harder nations surely expect a challenge, but not like this. Imagine starting a singleplayer game on hard mode, but it starts you in an area with high level enemies that are impossible for you to kill.

On the other hand, they are hardcore nations for a reason, they aren't meant for new players who want to learn the ropes of how to play. With the changes of free towns being removed upon release what are they going ot do with the impossible nations cause ya'll won't have any ports to live out if you loose all your ports than. Prussian and the other Impossible Nations don't have perm ports so what one day is your zone of owner ship might not be months from now so that won't work. I honestly think they should be true hard core nations. Pirates should only be able to join through game (like old days attack your own nation and you become pirate.) If you don't want to be a pirate any more delete your char and make a new one. The three other nations should be removed but if not make it so that like other games that have hardcore races you have to reach a certain level before you can even play those nations. Thus you make RA and now you have an option to play one of the hardcore nations. For a bunch of hard core guys they do complain alot, maybe it's best we just remove the nations and go back to the core ones? Could always give the Pirates the game mechanics they they can loose all ports. Turn Mort into a Neurtral port that all can use at risk (it will be pretty much a PvP zone).

Please make it so, @admin. Even if the nations are hardcore, new players should start in the heart of their nation and not be sealclubbed out of the game at shroudcay. Voting for capitals seems a nice idea. I would also prefer all nations except GB, US, France and Spain be hardcore but that is another topic. 1

UAZ-469 Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 (edited) It would already be enough - at least for the PvE-server - if all nations would start out with own ports and a capital (Even though some might protest due to historical inaccuracy, but it's the PvE-server, so...), so they could use the admirality for rewards. Currently, there's no point in playing as Prussia, Poland (Which I am in) and Russia. And to claim the rewards, you have to ask players from other nations to get them for you. If no ports for all nations are an option, then how about making admirality accessible to foreign nations? That would be still incovenient, since you need an Indianaman to ferry the ship notes back, but the easiest solution. Edited June 28, 2018 by UAZ-469
