Scenario with the Famous French and Spanish Floating attack battery ships?

Just reading about the floating French\Spanish floating batteries used to attack Gibraltar.

It took the British hours to heat up "hot shot" for their shore fortifications to fire at these. Apart from lucky shots they were impenetrable.

To get these floating batteries into action they would have had to be sailed to Gibraltar and into position.

 

I suggest a scenario where an British squadron intercepts these monsters. Don't know how they would have been tackled however.

It really tells me though that in game those people that wanted hot shot on ships would be waiting for the furnaces to heat up the shot for hours!! You would have to start the furnaces hours before battle and then run a huge risk of accident burning down your own ship! It also tells me that fortifications should not be able to use hot shot right away without a clear day or adverse conditions letting them see you coming from hours out.

And visa versa. I wonder whether these crackens needed howiters with appropriate ammunition. Get in close and bombard the fort from above.

Only then come in and create a breach with direct fire.

Then again I do not have plans for the floating batteries. They must have been very slow.

basicly build for an oneway trip and at the endstation scraped and the materials of the ship sold.

might be similar with these batteries simply and hulk that gets towed and has minimal rigging to be not a drifting wooden iceberg.

can be one of the reason why there are no plans simply because they where ,,thrown together,,

Yes exactly. But they seem to have not just been thrown together as they were well designed and nigh impenetrable.
