low effort suggestion really, just add the crafting bonuses to cannons. Perhaps add cannon crafting blueprints or notes that let you choose what you want your cannons to specialize in. So say you want cannons that are more pen, you get the "heavy barrel" upgrade that gives a slight pen boost.

Range you have "extra long" upgrade, or "polished bore" upgrade that gives slightly better reload time.

Simple really, crafting bonuses for cannons, what does the community think of this?

Unsure it sounds interesting however i don't want this done now the Devs have other more important stuff to focus on like UI, RvR, Hostility. Battles are pretty solid at the moment and i'm tired of them changing stuff which changes the Meta. 

Would rather them add more meat to the OW than add onto something which is pretty much solid and works currently

I want to know why cannon crafting doesn't give you any crafting xp?   Same with I think most of the mods that you craft give you zero xp. I set up one of my chars after the wipe to do this and than found out it gave zero xp so had to change his crafting to ships to level him up.   Pretty much the only way to level up crafting is by ship building and very slowly by building mats.

Crafting system really went down hill when they changed it and needs some love.  That is why I mentioned in the past crafting perks and crafting ranks should be sperated from Combat perks and earned on there own through crafting leveling.

Not really digging it... especially since we had 3 gun types for a while and they failed to balance only one more ( pood1 ). Also RNG is garbage.

Diversity is always a gain, game-wise, as it expands our horizons. I'd welcome different tiers in cannon quality and specification. However, that makes it necessary to equip a ship exclusively with one type you settle with, as 'mixed batteries' would be a hell of simulation efforts...

Yep this was the  biggest problem I saw. You could have 20 slots of different types of 9 pound longs that people probably don't wanna bother with.

Maybe the RNG isn't the best solution, but after we get UI and other stuff out of the way cannon crafting should be looked at and made more equal to ship crafting. Crafting XP for cannons is a good start.
