Vinnie Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 I'm trying not to be too peeved and failing dreadfully. I am sick and tired of trying to make my way around in open world with 10 feet of visibility around my ship. I'm 2 km from Williamsburg and still can't find the entrance, playing bump-and-grind with the shore. Do the developers think it is fun or smart to finally have players log off and play something else while the weather clears? We don't have grid references and in bad weather we don't have land references. I've sometimes had to log out and back in just to get that two seconds of clarity before the rain descends. Realistic to force ships to heave to and wait out a fog? Of course. Wise? Not on your life. Realism is one thing, enjoyability another and to have a successful game there needs to be a balance between the two. To make a game realistic but painful to play isn't a great design decision. It would be realistic to force players to take a hammer to their teeth to emulate scurvy but I doubt it would lead to great reviews. And yes, I know the RN had lemons by this era but they also had sextants and somehow the developers thought it would add to the game to remove anything more accurate than point-to-point navigation. Oh, the joy of trying to find a wreck in the rain. Not doing the usual "This sucks, I quit", but it does indeed suck. Design decisions like this make me fear for the viability of the game. Yes, I know, "It is only Alpha". That covers rubbish like this for only so long, specially with the game so close to release. 2
Gregory Rainsborough Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Bad weather? Go to another part of the map.

I see the guy's point Greg, can't go to another part of the map if you can't find your port your 2K from. One suggestion for OP, leave an empty outpost for times like this, teleport into a close by port, make outpost and then TP somewhere else to DO something else.
Tomasso il Fortunato Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 +1 lighthouses , we already posted it . No one cares . I don't see futures of lighthouses in Naval Action .

The main reason why I think they may aswell delete bad weather is that we can't have storm and rain in battles. It is technically not possible as far as I understood admin correctly and thus we also don't need to waste time with rain / storm in OW that turns into a sunny merry day in the battle instance.

Nerroth Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 (edited) Hello All, @Landsman, do you have a link to the topic about storm under battle? This is something that, for me, really break the immersion. I have seen some old video about combat under storm that looks amazing and I would like to explore this subject and read the history of this change. Regarding this specific forum subject, I know that I'am probably part of a minor group of players who like games without too much compromises. But I like the feeling to be lost on a sea. This is a good thrill that contribute to make this game attractive. You can always take a decision to fix a direction based on your last theoretical position That's where maybe we can have a new easy feature. if we had the possibility to trace lines on the map, we could act like a captain fixing a navigation plan. And by extension keep record and a global idea where was our preceding position. But nothing automatic, let's keep it at our discretion. Edited March 27, 2018 by Nerroth text review
Cmdr RideZ Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 (edited) Sextant + Chronometer would be nice. For good weather. Edited March 29, 2018 by Cmdr RideZ

NOT I's not a priority for sure, but the lack of content of the game is frankly getting a problem out there. The game did not see any real NEW content/feature since a long ago (except patrol missions). Just tweaks and changes on existing things. After UI and tutorial will be set up properly - therefore - I hope (for the game) that Devs will start thinking about adding something new Edited March 29, 2018 by victor 2
Navalus Magnus Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 I‘d be fine with lighthouses - pretty nice idea btw! 😊 As long as they‘re not implemented the tow to port function provides a viable solution for most cases of being lost in bad weather I guess!? But removing bad weather completely would also be a complete fail imo - an immersion killer! In other words: I think, that stormy weather in an age of sail game is kind of a must have! 1
