It's a pity the best part of this game is held back by fear of loss.

This, there's no such thing as "hardcore" pvp, it's just pvp.

Except maybe RvR guys, they're pretty HxC

I'm not convinced that it's the fear of loss really that holds people back.  I'm not sure people really care about their ships that much.  Perhaps it's more the fear of simply not knowing what to do and too many rules involved.  Basically being overwhelmed.  PVP is considerably more complex in NA and the entry level bar is set high.  I was talking to a guy in the US who has been playing since the Xmas sale and he said every time he tries to go out and solo pvp he always runs into a group and just gets ganked.  He's right, solo pvp is basically dead.  The price for admission into PVP is very high in NA and learning the ropes is....difficult.  I think it's just more of the "fear of the unknown" syndrome + shit is constantly changing.

Another part of the problem is there is no casual PVP.

Wise words.  But just read the reply of the dev in this thread ... so .... basically ... yours are wasted words.

Par for the course.

Only thing I see is you want trading that has meaning. Get in line, trading isn't the only thing that lacks meaning

It's kind of simple, isn't it? You don't need anything complex, best solutions are simple.

I was not the only one posting.

No it isn't, E.V.E had actually financial advisors monitoring it's economy, balancing budgets and what not. Try to make a functioning multiplayer economy yourself that doesn't involve a global action house.

I understand this may not be the most popular Idea but I am curious what the community would think about blending the PvE and PvP servers where you have a European theater for trading and missions and you can sail to the Caribbean (via portals (though I would just turn on Netflix, find my heading, and run a script to press the spacebar every 10 minutes)) for a PvP environment. That would allow traders like me to make long hauls that are highly lucrative moving goods from the old country to the colonies and back. But I would also base out of the Caribbean because that is where the PvP is.

I am also a fan of ports that actually pay for resources (I am thinking of the events from Elite: Dangerous) where ports may be expanding infrastructure and need raw resources, experiencing food shortages, if we ever get pirate raids you can send in relief supplies, maybe allow big clans to set up server wide missions where it prompts captains to deliver goods at a high return instead of just having to hunt down contracts by going port to port.

Just my $.02

A good suggestion, I like the idea someone had of making the pacific a thing and creating a PVE zone.  Given the size of the player base, maybe making the gulf a pve zone would be more ideal.  The problem arises of ALTS going in there and abusing the non-combat rules and then transferring that money/goods out.  The more and more I think about it....alts have really done more harm to this game than good.

I wish there was a market in capitals that encouraged players to purchase some of the trade goods like furniture, muskets and the other crap.  Like maybe needing them for various ships, kinda like what was done with the L'Ocean when it first came out and the french wine.  Having only certain points pay for certain items kinda weirds, but a player supply/demand system would be far better.

I also feel like the map is too big for the amount of players, especially with the number of empty ports that don't really serve a purpose other than VMs.

I think that PvE is in worst spot closely fallowed by OW PvP. Trading/crafting and especially RvR got all the attention of dev and all development time is spent on them. And when it comes to solo vs group its obvious that NA prefers large groups with lots of alt accounts.

I know I'll probably get berated for this, but I do wish that the characters had a finite life span after which you started over again. Maybe inheriting from your previous one so you don't lose all the effort you put into the game. Just a thought.

Have a great day and fair sailing all.

There is a game like that in the works, where characters can die of old age.

I have never really understood the "point" in trading - you buy (unnecessary) goods (which have no impact on the game / crafting at all) low at port A to sell high at B - so you get more gold

Can someone point out to me where the "fun" factor is in doing that? And why would it need more attention?

I don't mind trading.  I liked building ships and then sailing them or giving them away. Getting enough resources is key to the process.  I know guys who get satisfaction having a huge bank account.  That is what they like.

What I don't get is people who go out and kill random people.  I never took joy in going out and sinking other people minding their own business.  That never made sense to me to wreck someone's play time and I don't see the attraction for that activity.

If you have to do this interview to know the problems that the game has, you have no idea what you have been doing so far. It is painful but for two years the game has not done anything but worse. You have dismissed proven measures that worked and you have dwarfed the game. Ask yourself rather why you are not able to maintain an average population of 400/500 players and that is just joining the servers. You have managed to make a good game, a vulgar game, congratulations.

And the poll results are becoming to have meaning. PVE and Trading :)

Pve is your masses, trading for creating the living economy.

I wish devs could make in game small polls, to have the idea of masses. @admin is it not possible, in game polls ?

I think they might get it.  But experience says that we should line up like a lemming train in crap store ships and head out of port to be sunk like good little boys and girls.  Then the game will be ready for beta.

Poll results will never have meaning as long as players can make as many accounts as they want to get the results they want.
