Ahoy H.R. Matey Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 IMO the OW models of ships, not all but a vast majority of them, should have a quality pass done. We spend a decent amount of time sailing around the world, and model defects can be jarring. The most glaring ones that I can think of is the ship's behavior with respect to water (some ships look like they are constantly swamped, like Niagara; others like Constitution have water clipping through the hold); still others just have waves constantly washing over open gun ports (for example Indefatigable). Another good thing would be animated gun ports: close them while sailing and open them when attacking something or entering a mission. I know it's not exactly an "immediate" priority, but it would be a good thing to polish along with the interface. With the weather and day/night cycle, the game can be VERY atmospheric; it would be good if the OW ship models were closer in appearance and behavior to the in-battle ones. 2
jodgi Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 It's made to look proper good in battle instances. There will always be some level of jarring visuals with the OW time acceleration, it has to be like that in order to have a playable game. 2
Slim McSauce Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Both valid and true, but I believe there is more that you could do to make the OW look better and more atmospheric. OW feels like..well a shell, and it's a very thin shell, and its a shell that if was it's own game, would relate very little to the battle instance. What would do well for NA would be to embrace the OW as it's own entity and not try tomake it match the battle instance, but look good on it's own. UI is a big part of it, and a general lack of things to do when sailing between areas, just point and click ships and chat it up on global. Or play the gambling game which is somewhat of acute try to this problem, only preceded by the even much more adorable pray button.

Some frigates didn't even have port lids amidships (L'Hermione). For the purposes of buoyancy and staying dry, the gundeck counts as the top deck.

Agreed, but a quality pass on the OW models would go a long way towards reducing said jarring visuals. Details matter. 1
