I tried searching for any topics on this and I couldn't turn up any. I might just not have looked hard enough though. I was curious about lore regarding the game. Now obviously, with the game being set in the time period it is, there are plenty of historical events and what not to help come up with different stories and help immerse ourselves in the world that is Naval Action. However with it being a game and all, there is PLENTY of room for fictional characters and events. I was curious as to if the developers had any plans for lore whether it be blog posts that simply detail an event, or a fictional character or some sort of in-game lore. Something that helps provide a narrative that players can follow along with and intertwine in to their roleplay, or just to read it and feel more immersed. Good lore goes a long way in the terms of roleplay, sometimes shaping and becoming the basis for someone's character. For example, let's say some sort of short narrative outlining the events of an attack on [sOMEPLACE] results in someone creating a character who's backstory begins at this attack on [sOMEPLACE], causing their future to be completely altered, thus resulting in the character you see in game, who's drive and ambition is a direct result of this fictional event. Just a cheesy, cliche, revenge-story example but hopefully that helps bring out one of the many reasons that some good lore would make the game that much better. It also opens the door for more of the community to get involved in creating their own lore, and gives us an additional activity related to NA to take part in while we wait for the rest of the game to slowly rise from the depths  ^_^

There are plenty of historical characters with amazing stories in this period which is why novels and series like hornblower and master and commander are based off captains logs a lot of the time

! Although realistic fictional ones will obviously be what the player makes of himself.

I have no need for hollywood trashiness.

Life is stranger than fiction.

Please no cheesy peter pan disney characters.

Of course not! Haha this is not what I was after. I simply was using that cheesiness as an example. I'd rid myself of one's presence immediately if they had a backstory like that. Although I do like what you just mentioned about captain's logs. We definitely should be given some sort of captain's log that we can edit ourselves if need be as well as track our engagements in battle, and other various important events. That way as time goes on, your character will basically earn his own biography in which yourself and other players can go read about him to find out about you character's history. That might be kinda cool. It would add some lore to the game for each and every player involved, and each person would have his or her own unique history. If I am simply repeating someone else's idea here, please direct me to that topic so I can read all about it.

We are making a sandbox. The story is about you and will revolve around you. That usually means that you have to write your own story.

Ok that is what I figured. Now, what about the character history tracking mentioned in my previous post. Games always say, "Write your own story". But where is the story for others to read? I think it would be cool to literally write your own story as you go along and people can read it, just as they read about historical figures and what not.

Click on the name in my signature.  You could and can do that.

Though not a big RP fan, when I joined SGS I saw the potential for keeping track of my exploits and weaving a little story.  I did it for only a few months but it was fun while it lasted.  Some people spent a lot more time keeping their story line going and it was an interesting read to say the least.

That's pretty cool Jack, that is exactly what I am talking about. If the devs don't build it in as a feature it definitely would be neat to do something like that on my own. If the devs don't put together a wiki for NA, then maybe a community created wiki will have to suffice and maybe a section of the wiki can be created for something like that. The great thing about this history tracking is that for people that are in to roleplay, it would be an additional bonus that would help with the RP, while those who aren't don't really have to TRY to roleplay the history of their ship/character. I'm not talking super detailed story telling, but a simple history tracker like the one at the bottom of your page there that tracks battles, and other various important events. Then if players want to add notes to each event that would help form the story/history of their character. I doubt it will become something that is built in to the game, but for the RPers out there, it would be a cool/fun idea to go that wiki route. Thank you for sharing that Jack :)
