Question

Posted (edited)

Can anyone tell me how the Firepower line in boarding actions is calculated?

And also, does the ammo type you're  loaded with while boarding determine the efficacy of the Fire Deck Guns choice? I tried switch from ball to grape mid boarding but didn't seem to change much, but perhaps it only uses what you had loaded when it started?

Any info about this would be great.

Fire deck guns compares your top deck with the enemy top deck. For example using Fire Deck Gun on a Santisima or Bucentaure with 42pd Carros on the top deck will hit harder against ships with 9pd longs on the top deck.

There are some other factors also playing a role, like the number of your decks compared to the enemy.

Im not sure about Firepower and I dont pay much attention to it during boarding. All I know is when using Musket Volley it basically shows the number of crewmembers who have a musket. So upgrades and skillbooks like Muskets and Pistols will give your crew more guns and thus more Firepower.

Unfortunately there are not much hard numbers around (at least Im not aware of them), so most of the time you base your decisions just on experience and expected mods the enemy could use.

The ammo has nothing to do with your boarding.  Though I'm going to assume but some one might have better info the firepower is effective by the number of guns you have on the ship.   Seems if one ship has more guns than the other it's more effective.  I never have noticed any difference using the Boarding cannon mod either.  I do know the gundeck is effective even if you loose crew as your number of guns seems to never change so when you start to loose crew you can us it in place of muskets and such.

I'll let one of the number guys pop in to better answer, I just know for sure your ammo has no effect in boarding.
