blubasso Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 (edited) I’d like to give a try to some Frigates up to 5th Rank (my max Rank i could atm reach). I like fast and maneuverable ships overall, than at second place their power. For PvP purposes, of course. Any suggest? Edited February 7, 2018 by blubasso

You might consider to visit shroud cay. Ships are cheap dont consume a lot of repairs. Perfect to start pvping (Avoid Sin perdon for the beginning) Edited February 7, 2018 by z4ys 2
Liq Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Pfrig is underrated in this patch IMO. Downwind it turns phenomenally well. Also can equip it with edinorogs and 12 pdrs. 2
blubasso Posted February 7, 2018 Author Posted February 7, 2018 (edited) @rediii I already saw a good dozens of PvP videos, also your ones. They gave me a general idea how to good starting, but every battle is other than story, as you well know. I suspected that be sunk is 98% my own mistakes and the 2% of rest is misfortune: i knew it, i already fought versus NPC ships. I bet in PvP none forgive you, and it will be good: hard way is still the best one, in PvP. victor Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 (edited) Buy cheap 5th rates from IA (frigates, belle poules, surprise) - they ereally cost nothing - slap some repairs (you must learn how to use them) and throw yourself in every 1vs1 fight that you can find (open outpost in a free town and you will find some, while near capital ciities is too easy meeting gank squads). Or just roam aroun bahamas in a snow ... PVP will find you sooner or later. Edited February 7, 2018 by victor

Corona Lisa Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 (edited) Recording your gameplay and watching it later really helps, you will instantly see so many obvious mistakes you made which you werent aware of before. I suggest Belle Poule, great turning and upwind sailing profile. Cannons are a bit weak but you maybe can take carros now. Edited February 7, 2018 by Jon Snow lets go 2

Yesturday i run away from a trader (a trader!) that had 11 cannons each side: i wanted to try carronades and i played aggressively passing by the enemy ship very near. I have to calculate better the timing between a full shot and other, and yes: i have to learn the whistles. The trader almost devastated me: i had to run away, yapping like a clubbed dog. But a good fast and agile ship is a Renomee followed by the Cerberus. Granted the Cerberus sails a like a big Snow. I have always preferred the Renomee, just a better fast and tough little ship, she lacks a bit of firepower but if sailed well there is very little it cant handle or run from. 1

Curious, why not Endymion, what with being fast, agile and carrying very respectable armament? This is coming from a PvE player so I have no clue about PvP.

Not to mention it isnt as good as the agile as some of the other ships.

Odol Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Just now, Ahoy H.R. Matey said: I see. Makes sense. On PvE ships are pets, on PvP they are apparently cattle The Endymion has its advantages, like it is a great upwind sailor. And it has good firepower for the size... BUT it handles sluggish when compared to a Trincomalee, or the Belle Poole, which are both more agile than the Endy. They may not have the firepower but they are more capable ships in the right hands. I wanted to like the Endy, but it feels like a one trick pony now. Really only good as a fleet ship(not NPC fleet) but when running with other players in heavier ships. An Endy, Wasa, Aggie group is pretty scary. Because you cant out run the Endy, and you cant outgun either the Wasa or the Aggie.
Guest Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 The trinco is epic with 25 32lb carronades on each side. It's all about damage. The heel really is as bad as they say though. If you sail wrong prepared to get leaked to death. 4 bow chasers is sick too.

Turn Rate example: 3.25>2.29 (Almost -1 compared to all other frigates) Same with Dps, it sucks. Master Belle Poule, it has hidden ball bounce bonus compared to all other frigates. Perfect ship angle will bounce 90% of enemys broadside. Edited February 7, 2018 by H2O
Enraged Ewok Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 It's likely a mix of me being somewhat rusty and the ship being oak/crew space with only the most basic mods, but my experience with the Belle vs an Endymion earlier was not good. 30%~ better turnrate was not nearly enough to overcome the Endy being better in nearly all other aspects. Fortunately the Belle only cost 200k, which is the only reason I'd recommend sailing it over a heavier 18pd frigate.
