Why have a perk for capturing ships. I don't understand why we need a perk for something as basic as capturing a ship you've boarded. Doesn't it seem like that should be without requirement of a perk? Could we for the sake of new players make fleet 1 available to all but keep 2-3 in perk formation?

well actually if you reach a certain crew ranks is should be given to the captain as a gift

after all there is always a officer at your crew who can do the job if you have the crew rank

fleet perk is a weird perk indeed (it does not belong there)

seriously...?

that's not my experience

more like bumper car ,and always in your line of fire

no rewards from that helping ai ship (shit that goes down of your reward)

not attacking and always doing stuff what's not in the books of a good captain , the darn ships never listen to commands

How many PVPers do you see sailing around with AI fleet? For anything besides capturing ships fleet 1 is useless.

Plenty of people use ai 5ths to chain their targets for them.

Profit? A 5TH rate cost peanuts.

Which is why we should be able to maintain or "hire" or bring along officers of differing talents as choices in-game.  And my First should always be able to sail a captured ship back to port, why do I need a perk?  I agree it's superfluous.  Additional ships maybe but not the first capture.  Maybe the distinction is perk to take a fleet ship out of port, but no perk to capture and auto-send to OP.

I think it's silly you need a perk and I agree we should be allowed to have the ability to keep the captured ship you gain in a battle without having to sacrifice your own ship.

I for one like it. If we disregard the perks and view them as officers then it becomes up to the player to decide wether they want an xtra officer with basic navigational skills or something a bit more combat oriented..

When they half the requirements for the perk points I though it would of been better to instead of getting 2 points ever level to have some perks auto learned each level.  1 fleet perk would of been one of them, along with area control which I think should be effective for all ships as there is no reason for some one to escape you when they are that close (just like that stupid coward perk.) I also think crafting perks should be tied into your crafting rank not your combat level.  This way you can have a char that is Rear Admiral but has zero crafting rank so he has no crafting perks.  Than you can have a 2nd Lt that never fights, but he's a Master crafter (rank 50).  He has 10 points that go towards crafting perks and a few combat perks only.  Than you have your maxed out chars like most of us.  Rear Admirals with Master Crafers (Level 10 chars with Rank 50 crafting).  You get 10 combat points for being level 10 and you get 10 crafting points for being Rank 50.   This way one char can do both (no need for alts for the casual player).  Other wise you have to do what I do I have one char that has all crafting perks and that is all he does, he sits in port and makes my ships.  Lil Texas will prob never see any combat unless it's just too goof around.

SO yah I think we can do something like have a few perks you earn as you level up auto.  Than maybe have them be able to buy a few perks to fill out there char as they level up.

Then separate the mechanic. Have the ability to put a prize crew on a ship and send them back to port.

but then there is no chance for recapture.

Guys I can't seriously tell you the last time I saw a PVPer with an AI ship. I doubt PVPers are gonna be mad about some nubs taking AI into battle for more cannon fodder.

Just give us fleet 1, capturing ships isn't a perk unless using grape shot is a perk too.

Been there. A fight that would be a challenging 3v1 turned into a 9v1.

Quantity has a quality of its own, especially when it is free.

Then explain why we don't see it now? To capture a ship you HAVE to have the fleet perk. Most PVPers already run with it for that reason alone so why aren't they doing that now?

Also even using the fleet 1 perk you can't capture a ship without sacrificing your own.

It is 1 point.

It‘s one perk slot - that‘s what really matters!

You could use it for other nice things (e.g. prepared, ...).

That’s why I’d personally like to have the possibility of commanding a second vessel without the need of a fleet perk!

True, but you could make it an NPC fleet in OW with a specific destination.

But then I have to follow an NPC in the open world to make sure my ship gets home. The system at hand is pretty good. What they could tweak is how much crew you can put on a ship.

i.e. without fleet perk you can only put 1/3 the total crew on a ship without any perk (like a real prize crew) but if you have fleet one you can fully man the ship, with fleet two you can man 2 extra ships etc.
