Surrending

What if in a battle i surrend? I loose my ship, my gold, nothing happens...?

I saw something in the Net but the “news” were from 2016, so i dunno if they are still active

If you surrender you lose your ship and cargo

But you safe your crew. Means you dont have to hire crew again like you would have to do when you sink. Furthermore a surrender when you cant win and you just would waste your time by keep fighting can come handy too.

Yesturday i was in my basic cutter, sailing high seas. Suddenly a Wasa appeared (it was my fault that i didn’t check around me) and attacked me. I tryed to run, but i am new to the game and the Wasa was faster, i tryed to shoot at him/her but even if i hit 5 times on 6, it was useless: too thick armor for my average cannons. So i stopped my ship and let him/her boarding me, hoping that i could kill some sailors before overwhelmed and sunk. 

Later, on port, i realized that i could surrender. Late, but i didn’t know what could be happen.

The only positive thing was that i was 5 days sailing to my port and he spare me 5 days sailing, in a empty ship...

If you point your bow to the red circle means your bow almost points into the wind you will be faster than any square rigger and be able to escape when you sail a schooner.

So upwind i am faster than a square rigged one. Good to know. I will give it a try next time i am ingame and OW.
