connie  first

but speeds like that ......is just very unrealistic..... and stupid as well,  you can not sail a ship what is not sailing but crawling

second :

there where nations or clans can get all the goodie upgrades and other nations gets nothing, the difference in balance is too* great....

make the balance great again

third: make the  ?  second    o.0

*too great= not good

How fast does it go in reverse? :P

The insite.

9.5  or 0.4 ?

I would not be surprised...

seriously I would not be surprised at all...

"hacks are always in the hands of the "pla@ers"who make them"

"sometimes it does not, and nature takes over, [ like the Inger flip ] "

but seriously, what is the real speed record for the victory ???  ., something the "pla@ers" cannot produce it seems .!

"upgrades with a negative is not an upgrade, but a compromise! "

it's just ridiculous that a modern high tech ship for those days is doing 5 .2 knots max.

i am really beginning to wonder where "pla@ers"  pay their bills with...>> with a perk, an upgrade, or a slot or just a book !!! ( take a pick >  and pay

Edit: even Tarn is a new upgrade (invented by players)

This is hilarious!

But at the same time deeply depressing.

Just goes to show how this game has suddenly turned into a gear-based MMO for RNG grinding, a radical departure from three years of great combat. It really saps my motivation to get better as a player, when PvP means dealing with 15 kt SoLs and frigates with so many repair mods that they effectively have 180% as many hitpoints as you, on a fir-built speedboat.

You don't play anymore, so you're not really qualified to comment.

For most of past three years, mods have had a far smaller impact on stats. Usually there's only been one category that has been especially affected by them.

But now it's masts, thickness, speed etc all at once.

To be fair, the books and mods that nerf speed, are much more drastic than those that provide bonuses.

For example - floating battery is -15% speed... All the speed mods stacked together don't achieve 15% speed bonus (excluding force bonuses).

You can still get an HMS freakin' Victory to 15.5 kts, though.

Probably the stupidest thing I've ever seen in a videogame.

Put in other terms, the mods can increase or decrease your speed by 50%.

make it fir fir, copper plating, crooked hull, cotton sails, speed trim, art of ship handling, opt. ballast, studding sails, square sails trim, low calibre guns... would get pretty close to 15 id say

Yeah but lets be honest. What will a fir fir vic be good for? I think fir ships should have weaker masts

Well, but this thing will barely survive half an hour in any combat against a 5th rate.

a 5th rate wont take many mast hits of a 42pdr

I agree that the squisher the build, the weaker the masts should be, even though that wouldnt be historically accurate

Not anymore I don't think. After the lineship sailing model patch, when they buffed speeds of first rates, you could. I had a Victory doing 15.2kn with low caliber long guns (9pdrs and 6pdrs IIRC) and plenty of repairs. It did around 15.0 with full cannon loadout and a few less repairs, but still plenty for a battle or two. It was fun but broken.

After they nerfed speeds, it did around 13.2 IIRC. It was exactly as you describe, except I didn't have speed trim (but I did have art of proper cargo distribution learned at that time, which gives the same +1% speed bonus), I also used navy hull instead of crooked hull, gazelle instead of cotton sails, and I *think* I had Elite Spanish Rig refit on it, but maybe it was Bovenwinds instead...   Anyways, I was happy that with the server merge redeemables, I was able to turn that fir/fir Victory, (which was junk after the speed nerf because it couldn't catch much, and couldn't outrun much either) into a very nice LO/WO Victory.

So you might get a Victory (although I'd pick Santi since it has a higher base speed [and I'd don't sail the piece of junk that is L'Ocean]) to around 13kn, maybe a little faster than that if you run with only one deck of guns and very light repairs...but I don't see much of a use for it. A proper speed-built Bellona will likely turn that Victory into splinters, especially since it will have "room" to be a tougher wood type, and have upgrade slots left to use for carpentry and mast-mods while still reaching the same ~13kn speed range. Same thing with a speedy second rate (although those took a hit with the speed nerfs as well).

Here it is with the small guns installed:
