I never adopted to the (inane) repair meta either and that is shamefully obvious in that vid @Liq posted yesterday in the "elite 1v1" topic. Boy, is my face red.

I've never dueled belle's in a trinco, could you explain how it goes? The gun diff isn't enough to let trinco work for an edge? (I know you aren't dpm broadsiding it out as I can see that would be a losing proposition.)

The main issue is the trinc heel and the turn rate is far lower compared to belle. You don't have the time to aim because the belle turns so fast he will bounce half you're broadside or you will overshoot. Trinco doesn't bounce much at all and is easy to hit. There is no chance in raking either. If he is tacking you will be behind him(downwind). 0 chance of aiming that low and getting good shots into stern since the turn rate is so high even with a lot less sale. Belive me when I tell you its almost impossible even if the belle has 50% sails and you have 80-90 since the trinco will always win the chain game. Some of the smaller frigates have more turning force into the wind than bigger ones with the wind. I dont mind if a snow turns into wind better than a vic with the wind but a belle being so much better a turner than a Trinco is an issue methinks. I would love to test more but for that I would need duel room

In the old days it was simple. You chained at range and wore the repairs out. You had all the time in the world to position yourself. You cannot let a belle get closer than 300m or youre in trouble if you're dealing with a skilled person. These days you chain to 70% sail, he repairs to 100%. That gives you 15 min to chain him again, take his wind and don't forget its a ship that out tacks/turns you with 30% less sail so you will have trouble chaining fast, positioning yourself and getting at least one broadside of grape into him so boarding is safe. OH I forgot belle repaired again so you do all over and you have no crew left because he was raking you all the time. GG

Lets be honest. 15 min is nothing to fight wind and get into position to do anything now. I know I complain alot about it but positioning and the fight for wind are the most important things in naval warfare and should be a bit more accurate in game.

Yeah I will definately want to 1v1 some of you guys in the future. When  I feel ready for a beating I'll let ya all know.:). Watching the vids is great, you make it look so easy but then in reality when yer in the actual fight sometimes I wonder wtf I'm doing. Maybe I should be recording myself and compare but not sure I might be demoralized to the point where my legs start shaking and heart start pounding at the mere sight of enemy ship!.

But we'll see what I will have time for, I love to hunt so much, but arranged 1 v 1's for learning purporse once in awhile definately. 

 

Just let me finish saving up my marks that i need for the damn pvp carpenter mod.:P

You know why people clans like Rubli and podw win 10v5s or how ram dinark wins 5v1? Its not because they are really good, its that you think they are so much better you than you that you will loose. If you enter a battle and expect to loose YOU WILL LOOSE!

Officer perks on my os frigates are Rigging specialist, Charged, double, prepared and fleet1.  Ship knowlege is:

Be carefull with speed trim... and marines are good to have. I dont use on trinc because the low crew (need 10% marine perks please). Most time I solo hunt im in expendable ships. Keep in mind you that is my special trinco that I dont use that much so I wouldn't take my perms....

Dont waste pvp marks on that pvp carpenter  Carpenter perk for combat marks is all you need. If you stack carpenter skill with carpenter officer perk it is more than enough to be competitive. Just dont use fleet perk and sink your ship if you really want a capped ship  

At the end of the day if you want to learn get cheap teak berm or teak teak and have fun. If you die you dont care. I lost 5 teak berm trincs this week  who cares

I use carpenters sometimes. I will still admit If someone forces me into a hull bashing brawl I will loose more often than not.

French rig kinda is a have to, get yourself a bowfigure and some other cheap perma and there you go.

Especially at the beginning there is no need for super expensice ships. You can even buy some shopships and go for it. Sink as often as possible, thats how you learn to play.

I dont know hoe often I lodt battles already just stop giving a hello kitty if you do and else focus on how to win, or if its impossible how to escape.

@Liang Dao Ming I’ll tell you what I will suggest we do since you are Prussian and you want to learn from what some consider as the better players in the game, you and I will both team up and ask for a 2v2 or more depending on what we get on our side or enemy side, say we battle @HachiRoku and @Otto Kohl in a 2vs2 battle with a 30 pvp mark pot using whatever 5th rate we want to use and make it a “no kill” battle, tap out only and we entertain ourselves like this for a couple of hours and answer whatever question you or anyone else has, for fun.
