John Bull Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Open world items: Lights on in the ports at night so that they can be seen from a distance In Battle: Approx. indication of a target ship's speed - even just 'faster' or 'slower' than your own ship's.
AKPyrate Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 (edited) Technically speaking, ships are female - so you wouldn't say 'let's give him a broadside' you would be more likely to say 'let's give her a broadside'. 'I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, and all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by... (John Edward Masefield) John Edward Masefield: b. 1878; d. 1967...not exactly a period source. And there's that 'tall ship' reference again... So how does changing things like him to them take away this immersion? I would never suggest calling the ships tall ships or anything like that but there's someone who frequents the forums who has the character Elisabeth Swan, it ruins immersion a little bit when you see a female name referred to him and while the female player base is a minority it does happen and going back to your previous point they do sometimes have names that identify themselves as not a "him". The game has to make some small compromises between what was acceptable then and what is now and this is surely one of them, sorry but I can't see how you can justify the man references only. I'm bringing this up because someone I play with got a bit fed up with the slightly sexist feel to the game and is on the verge of quitting because of this and the attitude of some of the community, which might not feel particularly bad as a man but it can be frustrating as someone else who perhaps isn't or doesn't identify as so. If it has happened once it can happen again. Historically women were never as oppressed as we now make it seem, there were plenty women throughout history who owned ships, oversaw guilds and other activities from all kinds of backgrounds from rich heiresses to widowers looking for a new life, while they weren't always openly men like Anne Bonny, and it was more fairly uncommon, it seems silly to pretend that these women didn't exist. Since this is really quite a small matter, this will be my last post on the subject. I have already explained how it takes away from the immersion. Just like using the term 'survival mode' instead of 'damage control', as it's more period proper, or using historical ships with historic color schemes and natural colored sails. It's not sexist, it's history. This is a historical game. Also, Anne Bonny was not generally dressed like a man, that was Mary (aka Mark) Read. It's one of those little points that has been embellished over the years... Edit: Forgot to mention initially that another reason I'm making this my last post on the subject is because I'd hate for it to become any dividing issue. Let the devs make the decision and I'll be happy either way with the game. Just wanted my opinion out there for the devs to look at when making their choices. I understand the broader appeal for more gender neutral games, but this is already a niche market and I'd hate to water down what I believe will make this game great. I've never seen female generals in historical land-based games just to make some people feel better. Then again, if it does substantially increase the player base, then I could definitely learn to live with it. Edited February 7, 2016 by AKPyrate
hiclipucli Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 so my little things: 1. add lighthouse to ports !!! 2. Crafted product ( materials, like planks, barrel, ingots, etc.) can DIRECTLY sell in warehouse(lovered prize), not needed put on contract . so we can make a little profit .
Excelsior718 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I would love to see a wind gauge when you are in port, so you could keep an eye on the wind direction. Often, I will hang out and craft in port while waiting for the wind to change. It would be great to be able to check on wind direction while in the port. 1

Excelsior718 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) I would like to be able to hire merchant ships as well as warships. I would rather BE an escort than HIRE an escort. Would it be possible to sail with our own ships, that is, could I make up a "fleet" of my own merchant ships and own escort ships? It would be great if you can either load captured goods in a captured ship to send to port, use the hold capacity of your fleet, and/or add the captured vessel to your fleet if there's room. Additionally, if this were possible, it would be nice to be able to have cargo ship escorts. That way, you can have a couple of trader snows to move a large quantity of goods while providing the protection from a frigate, instead of trying to move one trading ship load of goods and relying on AI escorts for protection. It would be more realistic for a convoy scenario to have more traders and less escorts. +1 This would make trading much more interesting and viable. Edited February 8, 2016 by ssssnake529
Konstantinov Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I'm thinking it's already been touched upon, but being able to use the telescope outside of battle is a must.
McLeod Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I'd like the option to open close gun ports - even if just purely for aesthetics. The option to filter the clan members list to just those online, by rank or by date joined. The ability to link ships to chat for trade purposes.
Cossack Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I would like to see the basic cutter only free for first rank players. Currently there is a lot of higher rank players building outposts in free towns near enemies then just sailing in groups of cutters to pvp. There is nothing for them to lose and everything to gain. Most people scout in them too because they don't care if they lose the ship. 1

Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Given any future Open World restart I would very much like to see the Pirates have several starting cities at different areas, with accordingly starting city selection, instead of having them padronized in one area. Teleport would be to their Regional Capital, sorry no not capital, Pirate Haven. Increase the number of shallow ports in each region. A second suggestion is regarding the Free Ports outposts versus the Nation Ports outposts prices. Nation ones should be half the rate we have now, so a third license would be 25,000. Free Town outposts would be double what we have now, a third license would be 100,000. Both of these would add help to spread the concentration of national ships ( as it is now around capital and free ports ) and add the Pirates to the respective nations regions as an additional threat.
Excelsior718 Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I'd like to see a little bit more variability in wind direction. It pretty much just slowly rotates counter clockwise now. Would be nice to get a bit of randomness in how wind direction changes. 2

Would be nice to get a bit of randomness in how wind direction changes. Agreed. During night time you norally get a land breeze as warm air rises from the sea, cool down over land and cause a "land breeze". This is the opposite during day times where the sun bakes the land hotter than the sea, and you have hot air rising from the land, cooling down over the sea and causing a "sea breeze" 1
JHunter Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 By any chance could there be an improvement on the rain graphics on how it lookes an effects of it hitting the sea and ship please would make me happy game is great an im much enjoying it
Lytse Pier Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Seagulls when I am coming closer to land. 1
MiniVan Buren Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I would love a compass rose on the world map. It would make hard navigation a little easier without removing any of the realism. 1
Dalriaden Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 A capture circle added a round the middle tower in Port Battles. It would become activated once all towers were down. Shooting attackers in the capture circle or having a defender in it would slow the capture (equal or more defenders stop it/reverse it.) this would force people to fight if they actually intended to defend a port instead of showing up in high BR ships then running to the 4 corners and making lunch.
Strikeeagle345 Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I would like to see Nation Flags flying from the back of the ship (like in combat) while sailing in the open world. Also the ability to drop the flag to be mysterious or stealthy would be fun too... i guess. 1

Also no interdiction if BR is half or less of the intended target ( applies to all 7th rates )
shifty Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Little thing than annoys me more and more: sailing fully rigged into the wind. Ships would lower square sails when sailing close-hauled, keep only stays and fore-and-aft sails. Surely its not a huge work to implement? 1
ztrexx Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 We need lighthouses, they are a must when there is no build-in gps.
Tremor Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 my wishes (some text copied from previous posters )ignore the once that maybe are already implemented.a chance to try out ships in an empty instance before buying them (perhaps with a dummy npc target)a possibility to compare a ship before buying / switching with the current ship statsmore sinking animationsCustomization of figureheadCustomization of wood color (painted)Customization of flags and sailsexplorer missionstrader missionsGuilds, societies, allies, and nationsSome political aspects as governors or society leaderspremium ships!premium designs!maybe premium gold / xp boost tradeable like eves plex ?logbook (maybe also be able to write additonal log notes by hand Show me the Battle Rating (BR) of ships in shop and when i buy a fleet.bring back ai fleets for pve (and for me even pvp would be ok too)AI fleet using your own ships. (liked the idea of hire captain not ship)Position Marker on map for own ship.Make it possible for pirates to join nation again (with cool down)Bind crafting xp to steam like the combat xp (so you never loose it (if problem with labor hours share them with all servers) )Keeping boarded ships only allowed for pirates.nation can only break or sell boarded ships.maybe special upgrades for pirates and nations to make them more different.maybe a fast pve battle button like the small battle / large battle option for pvp.crew not only visible on deck but also in the sailsmaybe let player "Merge" ships of same type to increase durability ?(you need a dur 5 ship to add 1 dur to your existing ship, maybe that would make crafted gray ships finding a buyer)more details (dolphins, birds, godrays, ....)NAMING SHIPS.a lot more ships.no teleportssailing under false flag (must be balanced)Whaling fishinglet me walk on my ship in 1st person view ( Ship interiors )maybe an avatar and land missions in the far future and if you can design an avatar maybe let us also design our crew ?ships with less durability look older then dur 5 ships.Actual commands in that ship's language i.e. French ship, people yelling in French, English, people yelling in English etc.what i NEVER want to see :MODS + Custom Skins (like the hit zones skin pack for world of tanks)Custom UIJoke items (fancy hats)Joke designs
Ojibwa_Wind Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Weather I have been in the Caribbean many times and even lived there for a time. I have never ever seen the weather in this game like this when I was there. Lots of sunshine was the daily thing. Rain not as much except an occasional thunderstorm.
prichardgs Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 A captain page where you can outfit and customize your captain and crew with names and abilities bought or won. Assigned members to posts as well as recruit new crew members. A Captain can purchase items like updated maps, compasses, handbooks, specializing in boarding, sailing speed...a parrot. You name it! This would make it more immersive.
