Hi folks!

So, I am trying to get used to doing YouTube videos but it is not easy getting used to. This is one of my first videos playing UGCW and my commentary is poor and the volume is low.

As a Union commander I am very methodical and in this game it forces me to change my strategy. The video is actually in two parts. The first part is a rather poor explanation of how I prepared for the battle and reorganized my small army and the second part (starting at 11:22) is the actual battle game play.

Like I say, not the greatest quality here, but you might find it interesting.

The thing I find about this battle, being early enough in the campaign is the following:

First, while the map that's being used is in fact the Gaines' Mill map, it's not so far from being accurate as to a river crossing.  As the union troops had to cross this area most likely to get to Mechanicsville in the push up the Peninsula.

Second, and my biggest peeve about this is that should this been representative of the union ascending the Peninsula to Mechanicsville, the union troops need to be moving right to left and not left to right.

To be quite honest, I have no idea about the historical aspect and placement of the Union folks on start. So I shall bow to you graciously.

I find this battle to be quite fun actually and though I was able to win the first time on my Legendary campaign I struggled with it a couple times before, though I don't remember if it was on BG or MG level. I think I always tried to take the far right objective first. On Legendary I find myself a lot more deliberate and in open terrain I like to let the AI come to me. Sometimes you need to prod it a bit though... In this game, the rebs on the hill were so intent on attacking me that even though the timer was ticking down, they presented me with an opportunity to change my strategy and forgo a lot of heavy fighting in the woods. I took that opportunity... but it was really close.

There is no doubt that I could have wiped out the Confederate force here if I had delayed my attack on the second objective but in the end I decided that I was comfortable with the amount of losses I had inflicted and decided that they were whipped and called it a day; although admittedly I wasn't sure if the second timer would end the game but wasn't surprised when it did. Perhaps further on I will regret that.
