This is a great idea. Felix, your map is very helpful and useful. I see people in game chat refer to it more often than any other reference. In fact, other references are almost never used. Thanks 2
Farrago Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Your port battle planning spreadsheet seems to be missing port “La Tortuga”.
SnovaZdorowa Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 https://na-map-test.netlify.com/ outdated information
jodgi Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 The gauntlet is thrown... in a very friendly manner I went and made a OW wind tracker. It is so simple and stupid that it should motivate you to make an elegant tracker in your map. 2

Felix Victor Posted December 23, 2018 Author Posted December 23, 2018 (edited) Updated beta version at https://na-map-test.netlify.com/: wind rose. Start with map tools | wind rose. Rose will be restored when map is reloaded (tab or browser re-opened, for example) Clear map deletes rose Please test 🙂 @jodgi Maybe we can find a good name for it, 'wind rose' might not be the most descriptive. Macjimm Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 Perhaps call it "Current Wind" or just "Wind". 2

Fantastic! What if the wind selector has the same ticks as the display and in-game compass? It's not at all necessary but would be neat. 1

Ye, but then again I don't think your users would react negatively to a 0-360 degree readout in 15 degree increments. It's already established when we talk about points of speed. Modern seamen and airmen also use weather services that report in degrees. But it really isn't important
Macjimm Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 1 hour ago, Felix Victor said: Will think about it. Trouble is that there are no names for the other ticks. The dude that created the 24 pt compass has named each of the 'ticks' both with kool abbreviation and Latin/Greek names. ☺ 1
Macjimm Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 (edited) The top compass has easy tick names - North (N), North by East (NbE), North North East (NNE) etc ... The pattern and complexity is well suited to NA. A Roman architect, Vitruvius, created these tick names and also had corresponding latin/greek wind names. His 24 point compass was used but eventually replaced with other compass roses like the popular 32 point. The 4, 8, 16, and 32 point compasses can share tick names. If the 24 point rose is used it is important to remember that some points are not compatible; ex: NNW is NOT halfway between NW and N of the 24 Point. The compass below shows Vitruvius's names for each of the winds. I've show this for interest only, because the naming convention would be much too complicated for most players in NA. Vitruvius A 1684 depiction of Vitruvius (right) presenting De Architectura to Augustus Born Marcus Vitruvius Pollio 80–70 BC Roman Republic Died 15 BC (aged 55–65) Nationality Roman Occupation Author, architect, civil engineerand military engineer Notable work De architectura Marcus Vitruvius Pollio Edited January 1, 2019 by Macjimm Added Detail on compatibility with 32 point rose 2

Otherwise it is confusing. The only names for a 24-point compass are from Vitruvius and I wouldnt like to use them 😀 Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
Felix Victor Posted December 24, 2018 Author Posted December 24, 2018 Updated beta version at https://na-map-test.netlify.com/: Wind selector uses a 24-point compass with more or less abitrary names. Do you prefer this? @jodgi @Macjimm 1

Macjimm Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 I have managed to load the test map, but I can't figure out how to get the wind direction working. Is there something I am missing

Thonys Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 this has developed more like a real captains cabin than what we have in the game. on itself it is weird we don't have something like this in the game actually. good job on your part. 1
Sir Loorkon Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Thank you very much for the outstanding work you do for us. Your map is not a map, it is the best tool for this game. 2
Felix Victor Posted December 30, 2018 Author Posted December 30, 2018 (edited) v8 2018-12-30 Changed: new theme (colours and font) New: 'in-game wind' as suggested by @jodgi (once you enter the current in-game wind a compass rose will continuously be updated, good to know when returning to the open world from a [port] battle) Improved: compass changed to in-game 24-point rose as suggested by @jodgi Improved: overall speed Lots of minor improvements and corrections Edited December 30, 2018 by Felix Victor 4
Rompers Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Love the improvements! Good-looking theme and a noticeable increase in speed. Thank you for all your work! 1
