Hold Line While Fortified

Does anyone know how to make a brigade hold while in a fortification? I have discovered that forming a battle line and having the brigades hold (space bar) is very useful to create a coherent, supportive front. However, a brigade fortified anywhere along the line cannot be ordered to hold. Maybe they hold by default?

Why would a brigade in fortifications need to Hold?  The flanks are set, you can't rotate an entire set of breastworks.

It sounds like your brigade is not IN the fortification, but only AT it. It enter the fortification left-click your brigade and then right-click the white shield above the fortification. Your brigade will then enter the fortification and remain until broken, or you move it to elsewhere.

I have them in the fortification, spread out across the wall. I think the answer is they hold by default, but it's just mentally off that pressing the space bar/hold button doesn't change the icon or ostensibly seem to work. Maybe that button can be grayed out when a brigade is fortified or have the extra symbol appear by default.
